Donations refer to the organized boosting of a specific player by sending resources to them through the galaxy or alliance fund.
History
In earlier rounds, donating had a more general meaning than it does now, and included for example farming asteroids and ships.
Greenhills of Angels won round 22 by using the galaxy fund to store resources all round, while playing for XP. He overtook Kileman of Ascendancy in the last few ticks.
In round 36, an Ascendancy private galaxy composed of Ministry-affiliated players donated their starting resources to BlueArmy, who subsequently became by far the largest planet in the universe. Though crippled in his growth by the value based capping formula, he wasn't overtaken until halfway through the round. The galaxy would continue using the donation system among themselves throughout the round and narrowly missed ending as the top private galaxy that round.
Countermeasures
To prevent excessive donations, PA Team have introduced an upper limit on the amount of resources that can be donated to players as well as an upper limit on the amount of resources that can be stored in the galaxy fund and alliance fund. Additionally, since round 23, only players below the galaxy or alliance average score can be donated to.
