A Player called Bartok devised the Wing system in Planetarion.
The Empire was the first alliance to operate a wing and fleet structure as an effective way to cope with the large numbers of planets joining the alliance at the end of round. Originally a Wing consisted of 100 planets and in turn was broken down into 10 Fleets.
