Initiative determines the order in which the different ships fire in battle. Ships with the lowest initiative fire first, then sequentially higher initiatives fire. Ships with equal initiative fire at the same time.
Generally Cathaar EMP ships fire first, followed by Xandathrii normal ships, Terran normal ships, Cathaar and Zikonian normal ships. Then astropods fire, stealing asteroids. Stealer ships then fire, and then finally structure killers.
