Golden asteroids a number of unique asteroids in the Universe that can only be held by one planet at a time.
The special roids gives an advantage to their owner (say 5% mining bonus). Universe Miscellaneous page shows current owners of the roids. Mining page shows which (if any) of Special Roids you currently own.
