The Sad Death of Cluster Alliances posted by hardin

Although I am having great fun this round there is one thing that saddens me and that is the death of cluster alliances and their accompanying intrigue, backstabbing and general mayhem.

Now I could be wrong but as a pe0n in one of the largest clusters it has become increasingly obvious that cluster alliances have become pretty much irrelevant and fairly useless.

Why is this?

Well I think the change of the of the incluster eta bonus from eta 2 to 1 (for defence) and the complete removal of an attacking eta bonus has played a considerable role - alongside the introduction of Overburn Defence and Attack and the randomisation of the universe.

In the past galaxies often lived or died by the availability of cluster defence (particularly against incluster attacks). With the removal of any eta attacking advantage there is no benefit to be gained from incluster wars and as such there is no need for galaxies incluster to bad together for protection.

....and Overburn defence means that alliances can now protect thier members at low etas almost as effectively as any cluster alliance.

Yes there is still an eta 1 advantage for incluster defence but with the randomisation of the universe people do not take advantage of it because cluster alliances now offer potentially more hazards than benefits.

Many people will no longer idle in cluster channels because they know people from oppsing alliances are sitting there and reporting on every move they make. When they are online, when they are offline, when they are attacking, when they are defending etc etc etc.

Yes this did happen b4...but when cluster alliances and friendships were often very important people would be less reluctant to cause trouble for people who may the next day be their saviour..

ATM the risk of involvement in cluster alliances outweighs the potential eta advantage and means that cluster alliances are doomed.

So why do I think this is sad? Well as someone who enjoys the political cut and thrust and interplay of the game almost as much as actually roiding I find it sad that one more source of intrigue has been removed.

Some cluster wars were fantastic events in there own right and it is sad that this element of the game has been removed.

Cluster alliances also opened the game up to new players. How many people in top alliances are there as a result of impressing in cluster activities - my impression is certainly a great many. Great alliances and attack groups also grew out of cluster ties. This no longer happens.

In a way the PA World has shrunk with the irrelevance of the cluster alliance. People now socialise with their alliance, attack group and galaxy and one other avenue of interaction (and new friends) has been removed...

Am I over-emphasisng the importance of the old style clusters and are you also sad (or even happy) to see them go?

I've been watching this night unfold (to my distaste, as I have to wake up in 4 hours now fs :/) with interest, as have my alliance command staff. This has merely become the extension of a decision we made during the night of the 'The Consortium' affair, pertaining to one of our allies.

On reflection of tonights events, I and the Council of Reduco have decided on the following:

1) To serve official notice to Titans that we hereby cut the previous alliance we had. My own personal reason beind the behaviour during the Consortium affair, in which you forced us into a corner without consulting me nor any of my Command. For an alliance reason (ie, my members) - we want something to do.

2) To support Fury fully in the conflict against Titans. Our members are all in Fury galaxies (mostly) anyway, so it only makes sense we aim our knives and pointy sticks in the same direction.

3) To officially state our neutrality with FAnG (ie, for those hard of understanding - no ties between RaH & FAnG). In tonights events, the situation has arisen whereby - as an alliance - Reduco would be placing itself at too great a risk rendering military aid. I can only apologise personally to those I know in FAnG, but such are the way of things. I'll no doubt be labelled 'backstabber' etc, but it's something I can live with.

I wish all parties involved in tonights new found fun & games good luck, it's about time we had something to do
I really see no reason to post this and lie to everyone with made up reasons, and veiled BS to make it sound like something its not, so ill spare you all that. We have never had any deals with Fang, other than a friendly agreement. Well that deal is no longer friendly. Yes, some of our members have been attacked by Fang recently, so that did help this go along. We wanted action. I wish you all good luck on the battlefield.

On to Titans. Well you guys know me well enough to know if I tried to make some self serving post full of excuses it would be complete crap, so I wont. As of right now we drop any relations we have held with Titans effective immediately. While im on with this honesty kick, weve waited for this time since round 5. There were others that wanted to make this post, but with our history. I knew you would appreciate it coming from me the most I wont bother to wish you good luck, as you wont believe it, and I dont mean it. After the recent events of the last few days from behind the scenes. Im suprised even you guys can justify certain people.

It has become clear to us that Titans do not view us as allies.

Titans has made it absolutely clear that they would not allow us to exercise our ability to control our members. We were faced with a supposed ally of ours putting the ranking of a planet in higher priority than the basic integrity of Fury. They tried to bully us, and when it became clear that this would not be accepted, they took part, with disturbing enthusiasm and malice, in a plot to form an block excluding Fury. Unlike our other allies mixed up in that plot, Titans did not rush to our side, instead they attacked us in shared channels and to this point have still not returned to normal diplomatic relations with Fury.

In the face of this, we have no choice but to conclude that any further attempts at a mutual alliance with Titans are in vain. From this point forth the Fury are no longer allied with Titans. They broke this alliance with their actions. Actions that can only be seen as hostile to Fury, and actions that can only be met with force.

We wish the Titans luck for the remainder of this round. We had never looked to this kind of end to our relationship, but our hand has been forced.

We would like to thank our other allies for their support through this ordeal and their continued support and friendship.

Many people have asked themselves and us what TFD will do next round and why they are not mentioned in the announcement about the new powerblock of round 7. To be honest, we were just as surprised as you when we read that post. Only one day before the announcement we had a conversation with Xanadu hc about our relations in round 7. Xanadu had some doubts about it, which is very understandable since nobody can deny that Xanadu is just a better alliance than TFD, but they still wanted to be friendly. Sharing galaxies and a NAP was at least possible and maybe also being allied again.

Now we have read the announcement about the cooperation between Xanadu, Elysium, NoS and Wolfpack we certainly feel, like someone in the other thread said "like a bit of a used condom". When we asked Xanadu hc if they were talking to NoS and Wolfpack about a possible cooperartion, they said: "yes, we are talking to them, but we are talking to every alliance". We concluded that nothing was sure yet. We were mistaken though. We were completely left outside the conversations and we are sure both Xanadu and Elysium have no intentions in taking us as a serious ally next round.

This means that TFD will have nothing to do with Xanadu and Elysium next round. At the start of the round we will be neutral with them like we will be with any other alliance which will not be our ally. Now we will look for some decent allies to play with next round, we are sure there are enough of them.

Thanks for your time,
We are excited to announce the formation of a new force in the Planetarion gaming universe. The members of hirr, Nemesis and NewDawn have come together at long last to forge a new confederation.

Since the beginning of Planetarion, we have seen the dominance of few selective powerblocks. These huge alliances bond together with the intent on crushing all opposition that obstructs the journey to the top rankings. However, our proposed coalition is more than a mere powerblock, more than a mere alliance - ND, hirr, and Nemesis intend to form a union.

With tightly-woven friendships formed over the course of 6 rounds, the members of Nemesis, ND, and hirr were made for each other. While these 3 prominent alliances will retain their individual idenities, we shall create a society the likes of which have never been seen by the Planetarion community. Combining the atmosphere and history of these 3 rich alliances with the dedication that can only be formed from first hand experience, we give you Auld

In the 14th Century, the governments of Scotland and France sought to collaborate to achieve mutual protection for their nations. They ironed out a treaty known as Auld, which effectively made citizens of one country, citizens of the other. This is exactly what our version of Auld will strive to accomplish - all for one, and one for all.

Thank you and good night.

I would like to announce the establishment of the alliance FAnG which will begin operations as a planetarion alliance at the beginning of round 7. Some of you will be aware that FA (Furious Angels) is an alliance that has existed for some time - since round 1 in fact. Excepting this round (Round 6) FA has been an active and willing participant in the dynamics of planetarion gaming since its inception.

There is a little more to it of course. FA has "merged" with the former alliance nG (Next Generation) which now ceases to exist. We consider this a rebirth of the FA from previous rounds and are looking forward to bringing you FAnG - Furious Angels, Next Generation.

With explanation of the acronym aside, it is prudent to also explain some things which would no doubt become an FAQ before too long.

Who are the HC and officers?

Current HC are myself, Leff, TheUnknown, Lockhead and vampy. Our lead military advisor is Rumad and our lead technician is hinch. Obviously there are more appointments to be made, but hopefully this satisfies most inquisitive minds.

What are FAnG's goals?

To play the game well, have fun, and uphold our ideals.

Do you have a website?

Currently the public portal is not ready for traffic, so right now the only webspace available is private and for members only. Sorry. We will rectify this in the near future.

Who are your allies?

We are considering our options, and shall make our partnerships and allies known presently.

ashes to ashes
dust to dust

Deus Ex Machina is formally disbanded as a Planetarion alliance.

We will begin converting our forum into a public system within the next few days, and open a public portal before R7 begins (if everything goes to plan).

I have decided to post up some amusing tidbits from Deus - we are far more sinister and evil than most people give us credit for.

beginnings

The original plan for Deus was not to form an open alliance. We were initially going to form a two-tier alliance, with an inner trusted core, and an outer mass of players. The inner core would know our true plans, while the outer mass would be oblivious to the reality. Our initial plan was to ally with FLVT.

What?

Oh yes. Ally with FLVT, and get arbiter access. After a short time, after compiling a list of their galaxies, use the inner core to launch several attacks on their forces, sharing our ill-gained list with Xeta and other forces, then announcing our true intentions to the universe.

Naturally, we didn't do this. We didn't have the time, and we were so security paranoid that it was deemed to be next to impossible. I still think it would have been highly amusing.

Titans

We relied far too much on Titans before the round. We were impatiently waiting and waiting for them to announce and break from Legion. Finally they did, then days later, turned around and left the hirr/ND/Deus/Titans group.

This was rather annoying, though I believe we benefitted from the matter. We got Agamemnon. We win. \o/

FLVT war

We were a hard-core killing machine at the time. Deus was doing the best out of any alliance in FoS for some time, even rivalling or beating Xan. Not a boast, just fact. We took out the supports, and Xeta hit their main forces. It worked surprisingly well.

Two weeks into the round, many Deus HC were convinced that we were going to lose. The FLVT farming system looked unbeatable - till we ripped the supports out, and they fell down.

Feelings toward FLVT at this time

We initially had a lot of dislike toward FLVT, though this cooled down slowly. Patrician was so anti-Fury that he repeatedly told us he wanted to spend the entire round Fury-bashing. I personally wanted to beat Fury, just to beat Sid at his own game. I also wanted to beat Titans for their "betrayal" of us early on.

After we began to interact more with Xeta and FoS, our focus of dislike began to shift toward Xeta and certain parts of FoS.

Xeta war plannings

This is one of our most devious plots, though it didn't actually go off. We did plan a war with Xeta. Deus was preparing for it, and we were in deep talks with the rest of FoS for a couple days before it broke out. The war would have happened within 3 days anyways.

We wanted Xeta to declare first - simply for the PR boost. This they did, in a better way than we ever hoped for. Deus HC had a long laugh about that one, for sure.

Our key plan, however, rotated around 33:9 - Killmark's galaxy.

Killmark orchestrated the early bot attack - he kept his hands off it, personally, but we knew of it when it happened. We watched, we laughed. I figured they would be deleted, and Deus decided not to take any advantage of it - as that would be rather unfair.

Surprise surprise when I came back after taking a weekend off to find 33:9 in Deus. Several decent people in there, though, who I was very upset to lose.

Our plan revolved around using them as an excuse to short-break the NAP with Xeta. We knew that Xeta and NoS and WP were planning a joint attack on 33:9. We contacted NoS and asked them to hold back till the second wave or so.

After Xeta launched an assault on a known Deus/FoS galaxy, we would use it as an excuse to declare war on them, instantly. After that, we would drop 33:9 - effectively using them as a lightning rod.

Evil? Yes. My apologies to those in 33:9, except Killmark - I don't have an ounce of respect for a repeat cheater such as yourself.

FLVT peace treaty

We approached FLVT for a peace treaty / cease fire a couple days before the Xeta war broke out. The reasoning was this: we didn't want a two-front war, and we knew that FLVT wanted to take out Xeta. Thus, the peace treaty was beneficial to both of us.

After interacting with them for some time, we came to realize something - they were so much more organized than Xeta, it wasn't even funny. Working with them was far more rewarding.

Deus downturn

The FLVT war sapped our strength, and the Xeta war hit hard. We lost several good members due to mixed galaxies. Due to WCN deciding to let us wait while they negotiated with Xeta, we took heavy damage. Our activity dropped and never picked back up to the same level.

Still, Deus fought back as best we could and hit Xeta back. We survived and survived in decent shape.

Nearing the end

Deus nearly disbanded before the round ended. The HC was so exhausted, it wasn't even funny. Our lead BC was burned out, and we didn't have any reserves left.

Our plan before the end of the round announcement was to renew the war against FLVT. We were preparing to do it when the announcement came, and we knew that it would be pointless then. I still wanted to do it personally, but it was too late.

FLVT made such a strong comeback, that if the round had continued another 2 weeks, they may have won. We didn't want that to happen (yet again), so we were preparing to offer a peace treaty to Xeta and go back at FLVT - hoping that it would motivate our membership enough to let us finish the round in style.

Oh well.

Misc opinions

hirr and ND were excellent allies, and I wish we had gotten closer to them. We never did manage to get a server linkage with them, unfortunately.

Guild, while they came later, were also a good friend and ally.

WCN, though - bleh. They left us out to dry when Xeta declared, and that alone gains them our disrespect. NoS has earned a lot of enmity from me personally for Dingo's utter assholish attitude toward QD at some points. You are indeed a wanker.

WP and NoS owe their position in part to us, and that's that. They didn't earn it on their own merit, and their new "friendship" with Xan and Ely just illustrates their cowardice. The number 1 galaxy took their position by avoiding war in a wargame. Feh.

I'd not ally with them again for the world.

Deus propoganda

We owned you.

Closing

As I've stated before, Deus won. We didn't stop stagnation on our own, but we led the universe in trying to. We controlled enough of the political direction - we wanted FLVT and Xeta to beat on each other, and we successfully manipulated their desires to do so into our favor.

We were a group of sneaky conniving bastages, the like of which will never be seen again. Maybe.

Deus in R8 anyone? (cue evil laughter)

Deus Ex Machina: Official Announcement posted by AlbinoSquirrel

Mission accomplished.

Deus Ex Machina was formed to help suppress stagnation in this game. This round has not stagnated - there have been wars and battles going from nearly day 1. The vast majority of inactivity this round came from boredom with the game itself - not the political situation. We did our part to stop any one alliance group from completely dominating the game. There is no domination this round.

Deus has won - we may not come in first place in the rankings, or have the #1 player or galaxy - but we have won, simply for the fact that we have accomplished our goals. You may disagree with us on this point, and of course, you're welcome to. It is our perception that matters here, and no amount of flaming can take that away from us.

Therefore, it is time to announce our end-round intentions.

When the last tick ticks and scores are recorded, Deus Ex Machina will cease functioning as an official PA alliance. The HC of Deus feels that our presence in the game is no longer necessary - that the game will never reach the lows of stagnation and boredom that it has before.

Instead of leaving the game entirely, however, Deus Ex Machina will change our focus to the PA alliance community. We will provide a forum for PA alliance discussions, without the same restrictions and rules (and wankers) that this forum has. We will provide a neutral news portal. We will provide PA players with a community where they can find other games to play together, where they can discuss strategy and gameplay for any game the community desires. Once the round is over, we will begin transforming our current website into a community site.

It is our hope, that by giving the Planetarion Alliance Community a place to come together, we can save the most cherished part of Planetarion: the community!

To Deus Ex Machina members, officers, and commanders: Well done.

To the true allies of Deus Ex Machina: It was a pleasure and an honor to work with you.

To the enemies of Deus Ex Machina: Well fought.

Baptism of Fire.
On behalf of NoS I am very happy, and honoured to announce that we have as of today a new wing: Howling Rain.

After founding Anoubis end of last round, we have seen that the wing system we use in NoS has been more than successful, and therefor, we decided to look for a second wing to implent in our alliance. We had several offers, and looked at many options, but we felt HR would be suited best to fight along with us against our opponents in the coming round. HR is an alliance with ancient origin, and still has the honour and loyalty from those old days, hence they will form a great addition to our family.

Howling Rain is added in focus on the next round, and the full cooperation will start as of then, concluding from this, this event will not interfere with any of the NAP's nor alliances HR and NoS have this round.

Welcome to NoS, Howling Rain.
Thank you for your time.

Official Deus Response to Xeta posted by AlbinoSquirrel

To the Xeta faction of alliances:

Deus has received your notice of the termination of the NAP.

To counter your allegations: Deus has been preparing for war with Xeta for some time. This was a necessary step in the game, and as such, is no surprise to anyone. We stand by our principles, and we welcome this war fullheartedly.

However, to focus purely on Deus is uncalled for and unworthy of the Xeta faction. It brings to mind events of last round, and certainly leaves a bad taste in our mouth. Deus Command has respected Xeta as a military force and partner against FLVT. To focus on us and deride us for merely following our path which has been openly stated from the beginning is unbecoming to alliances of your caliber.

As for the allegations of negotiations with FLVT - Deus has not formally agreed to anything with the FLVT faction. However, we have contacted parts of FLVT, with the full knowledge of other Misc HC, for a cessation of major hostilities between Misc and FLVT. As they (FLVT) have been defeated and we see no point in driving them into the ground, there remains no real reason to continue the "bashing" and continued focus on their forces. We beat them (thus far), and no one can forthrightly come out and deny that. We give FLVT our firm respect and best wishes for the rest of the round.

As for another matter, we have formally dismissed 33:9 from the ranks of Deus Ex Machina. Their repeated violations of NAPs (even if accidental on occasion) have strained our relations with our allies and friends to such an extent that Deus Command has decided to revoke their alliance membership. Deus Command also makes formal apologies to all alliances and parties who feel they have been wronged by the actions of 33:9.

Xeta: to the victors go the spoils. See you on the battlefield, and good luck

Titans Allies posted by Titans HC

Titans has had a very energetic start to its Planetarion life - the alliance which was subject to a split from the Legion has been recently looking at allies, what happens and what we need to do for this round.

After much contemplation, and after much negotiation, we have allied with Legion and napped with Fury.

This has been done for several reasons - firstly we looked at all sides of the pa universe, we tried to be involved and feel comfortable, but we are as I say a Legion breakaway and still have a linked infrastructure for gals and this is not congenial to our initial strategy.

Secondly our alliance members are still friends with Legion members - since we were more and more being seen as a hostle alliance to them, it was straining friendships to the extreme. This causes huge problems in that members become bitter and causes more bad blood and this continues to the extent that we would end up in a grudge war with Legion, one which neither Legion nor we want to fight. Also, we do not wish to be seen as merely the 'next Wolfpack', traitors and betrayers. We hope this is interpreted as an act of good will within Legion.

Finally I would like to thank Deus Ex Machina, New Dawn and hirr. You three alliances have my highest respect and to break away like this is frustrating, but due to our internal situation, it would prove to be impossible for us to be as valuable part of that alliance as we (and you) would wish.

It is sometimes difficult to determine which path is the best for a group of people, what to prioritize and what to not. It is our hope that this is the best for the Titans. Apologies to those who feel disappointed by this. This was a hard choice, for us too, but one that had to be made
Today XeTa HC decided to end the NAP with Deus Ex Machina.
Full scale attacks will start on Sunday, 72h from now.

XeTa is only dropping the NAP to deus and not to any other misc/fos alliances. The NAP to deus is canceled due to the propaganda against XeTa and the protection of former furgion gals who openly admit that they attack XeTa regulary.
Furthermore we get irritating rumoures that deus is talking to furgion about NAP/ally agreement, time will tell if these rumoures turn out to be true.

Should any alliance linked to deus decide to help them in the upcoming war against XeTa, we expact a 72 hour warning in advance.
We wish Deus Ex Machina good luck and hope the round stays interesting for all of us.

Kull wahad!

Quite a storm, this. Hopefully, this post should clear up some of the bad weather. Such is my hope, at any rate. I hereby announce the creation of The Titans.

The Titans consist mostly of ex-Legion members, who all have had different reasons for leaving Legion. The Titans have been fused by internal problems in Legion throughout round 5, due to communication problems and disagreement concerning the political direction of the alliance. I won't go into specifics, everyone has their own reasons, and mine are certainly not representative for all of The Titans. I must stress that in *general* the split has occured due to a disagreement of the political direction Legion has taken, not due to any deeprooted wish at destruction, not due to being powerhungry mongrels who care about nobody and so forth.

The split was not caused by animosity, I feel no need to breed it. It saddens me to feel that there is a sense of growing hostility from the ones who chose not to leave the Legion for the Titans. I would urge not to make this a vendetta, we certainly aren't making it into one. Personally, I think this in a way benefits us all - Seduzer calls it getting rid of the faulty parts, and in the Legion that we just left, I think many Titans felt that they were indeed 'faulty'. So we're making an alliance that is more 'right' for us, and then accept that others in Legion want to head off in a different direction. I pledge that we will not knowingly attack our friends in Legion as long as they do not show hostility towards us.

As for the alliance itself, it is pro-roids, pro-score and pro-fun. I'm confident we will be having the latter even if the two first are unattainable (though I hope and think we will be fighting for the top). We wish everyone good luck next round - it should prove to become very interesting. Maybe even different ;-)
LDK officially is going to move out of PA at the end of this round if ban of Lithuania remains. We are still completely sure that banning "as fraud prevention" is nothing more than a useless desperate act by a PA crew. Its not the measure to stop frauds, as such actions simply increase a number of people seeking revenge. As, we are getting banned, We'll pay our attention to other games, instead. Because it is better to play and compete in other games legaly, when trying to exits here under cover.

We want to thank Xanadu. If in r4 they would not accept us, we would be arsed from right and left, and also would not have chances to make a whipped cream from PA celebrity society cream. Really deep thanx for Xanadu ppls who helped and supported us. Thanx to all people who defended us from the spamming idiots on PA boards. With Xanadu we achieved lots of our goals. We had top 1 gal/player in round 4. We were always loyal to our alliance, we never backstabbed, those 3 rounds with Xanadu really impressed us. There had lots of fight won and lost. We spent very good time here. Yes, round 5 was boring, but we fought with our enemies, we lost, but with honour. This round we still had our player as top 1 for long time, and we guess that our galaxies were hard nuts for our enemies. It is sad time for all lithuanian LDK members be banned from this game. We don't want to mention any personal thanks, cause there will be too many. But especially we thank for whole Xanadu High Command. Those are the best people i have ever seen.

Thanx to fury and vts for bringing us a good fight, but you should learn to accept the defeat.

Thanx for Cryptic and Co. , you gave us a good laugh and you were an example how to make people think that myth is a reality.

Thanx for all "experts" of LDK, always was nice to discover new things about us, even unknown for HC's.

For those who thinks they "know" what is/was LDK:
You making your aliance meeting once/two times per year, while LDK makes almost every week. Its just enough to post on topic '19:00 at that and that pub', and you have at least 30 ppl drinking beer. I know 60% of our aliance personaly, while
doubtfully that other aliances HC's can say the same about themselves. You measure LDK, by looking at your own alliance. We are different. You dont have more than half aliance members living in same town, and others just in 1hour trip by train. You never realise that LDK member relation/communication is 10x better than any other aliance. You can ignore your aliance
member that you never saw requesting defence, but will you ignore your RL friend?

From now on LDK is disbanded as a PA allaince.
After all we are proud to be LDK.

I disagree with a decent portion of this text. There are references to specific actions that are presented as an intel officer's job, but much of this is just opinion text on how an intel officer should do their job. There's no objectivity; there are no reasons why there shouldn't be an intel officer in an alliance. I appreciate that you're adding the stuff from the mentor manual, alch, but I think you should process it a bit before you post. -Banned 18:50, 11 Jan 2005 (GMT)
This is the original Manual the mentor team (which i was head of) have been working on, it was first published on WebAngel site then later on taken to the planetarion site and somehow been forgotten there.
I want to move all the content to PAwiki and change and add more information to this manual, hopefully this time, the manual wont be restricted to get written only by the mentor team, but by the community itself.
Making the community able to share its experience with the newer member.

Intel Officer

What is an Intel Officer?

In an alliance the Intel Officer is one of the most important and most sensitive positions. The Intel Officer is leads a group of underground players. The Intel Officer is the only one who people should publicly know works in the Intel area. The other players under the command of the Intel officer have to stay hidden/unknown.

What's the job of an Intel Officer?

Part of being an Intel Officer is to keep all eyes open and to "gather information".
Selecting the most important information and forward it to the command (HC) of your alliance.

What for?

- First of all the Intel Officer will have to identify who is who in the universe. The alliance and the nickname of the players for every single planet in the universe. This kind of information is very useful to know for planning attacks.
This is mostly called a Map of the universe and the information is generally stored in a mini-site called "arbiter" which give you an overview of hostile/neutral/friendly planets in the universe.
- Secondly, the Intel. Officer will have to make sure that if another alliance plans a huge attack on your own alliance, it won’t be a surprise attack and that the HCS and DCs are aware and ready for it.
This is done, mainly by having enough "friends" around, people who will give you tips or people that share the same interest as you and might want to give you this information as well, but sometimes this is just down to a simple analysis of the situation.
- Thirdly, an Intel. Officer will help the HCs when they have to make some decisions with the external affairs. The Intel Officer can tell the HCs if such or such an alliance is a good candidate for a merging or a non-aggressive pact. The Intel Officer has to know the relations between all the alliances. It is sometimes crucial to know why an alliance is at war with another one if you don't want to make the same mistake or if you want to use this to weaken another alliance...
- Then the Intel. Officer has to do some counter spying. Detect any spy in your alliance and report it to the HCs who will decide to either kick the spy out of the alliance or to use this leak to their advantage...
This is done by monitoring your own members, but the art of counter spying is very wide in its use, this will be up to you or someone who will teach you how to do it.
- Last but not the least duty for an Intel Officer is to make sure that none of tools used by your alliance can be hacked. Indeed, some alliances use a giant Database (DB) where all the planets are listed. Some advanced Database Management Systems (DBMS) got nice tools to add extra information to planets, such as alliance, hostile/friends. Run all sort of sql statements on the DB to get info on who did what over a certain period, etc. This information is priceless and even if it's illegal some will try to hack them and nobody will ask the Intel Officer of the other alliance how he got this information. Once they have found out nicks/alliances of certain people, they can be updated in their DB and they can attack them and notice where the defence comes from and get even more coordinate of your alliance-mates.
Which is why in most cases, the Intelligence Officer will be the one in charge of the security of the alliance with the techie, both will work on the best way to ensure that member list and other DB items are well protected, that channels are keyed or invite only, that members know what kind of information they shouldn’t give away and more... This is your duty to set up a list of standards to avoid a case of leak in the future.

What do you need to be a good Intel Officer?

As an Intel Officer you can gather a lot of information. You will have to forward them to the right people but remember: lots of information that is gathered can be false. You can choose to keep some information secret and you can choose to leak some information on purpose. For instance if you know (because a friend of yours told you so) that some alliance plans a big attack on your galaxy you can let this alliance know that you know and then they can cancel the attack since most of the time, attacking when it's expected is useless.
Sometime controlling what an alliance knows about you is way better than trying to avoid that the alliance will find out details about you, you will find out that leaking information to certain people can turn out some extent in your own favour.
One last piece advice, don't think people are 100% loyal to their alliance, this is not true, the real life friendships and sometimes the possibility to save your planet is far more important. There are few incorruptible players.

Where/How can you get some pieces of information:

As Intel Officer, your alliance-mates have to tell you everything they know about their galaxy. Who is in and what alliance they are in and who is active and so on. This is the easiest way of getting information.
You can ask your alliance-mates to get the same kind of information at a cluster level too by being active members of their cluster alliance.
Otherwise, you need loads of friends, who trust you more than their own alliance. Usually an Intel Officer can offer some kind of protection in exchange for the information. Loads of "friends" give you loads of "secret" information. Your job is to do something with it.
The way you can gather information is highly varied, you can also exchange information, when you work with another alliance, and having friendly relationships with them, you can always offer some information for some other information.
Avoid giving out your member list or that of your allies, even if this is a need to "protect" you against future incoming, people will generally sell theses list to get more and more information on other alliances as well.
Never trust other intelligence officer, they could play you to get the information they want, don’t be naïve, they play the game as well.
Avoid to store your member list on the forums if this one is not secured 100% (go and see Forum section for more information).
Avoid to store your member list on the same directory of a Galaxy's banner or in a site that can be browsed by directories and therefore allow download of files.

There are lot more issues, we hope this will give you short overview about the role of an Intelligence Officer and what he should do.
How he could eventually act and what he could do, the rest is up to your imagination and what you will possibly learn from your experience and from learning from players you will meet in the game.
Have fun.

How to start a brand new alliance or (HC 101) posted by cayl on Planetarion Forums

I keep seeing threads by people who are frustrated in their attempts to create a new alliance. So allow me to give a little advice.

First, why are you starting an alliance? There are lots of good ones out there already. There are only two answers. The first is that you're already a group of friends who hangs out and attacks and defense together, you might as well give yourselves a name and invite others to join. This is by far the best way to start an alliance.

The second is that you are a power hungry person in search of peons to direct at your whim. This is also fine, but you'll have to do a lot more work to be even slightly successful. If this is you, just be honest with yourself about it, it will make things so much easier down the road.

Now answer some questions:

Do you know what IRC is? Have you ever attacked with a group of people before? Have you ever had to organize other people's fleets to defend someone elses planet?

If the answer to any of these questions is NO, then you will not be successful until you've spent a little time learning the ropes from an established alliance. Don't worry, you can still take over the universe some day, just not this round. Allow the people who have perfected the art to teach you their ways. You will use their own knowledge to crush them.

Now, some more questions:

Are you on IRC most of your day? Will you be active for at least one full round of Planetarion and the month or so before? Do you know anyone you can trust absolutely to help you out?

If the answer to these questions are NO, then you've got to seriously re-examine whether its going to be worth your time and effort to try this out. If you can't be around running your alliance most of the day, then its not going to go anywhere. PA is a 24 hour game. You have to be here for the full round, its not fair to your members for you to back out on them after 3 weeks because your mum forgot to pay the internet bill. And you have to have help. People you can trust to make sound judgements will be essential, because you have to sleep, and someone has to mind the store while you're away.

So if you can pass those basic questions, then you're ready to get started.

First if you're not experienced, and want help, get on #mentors on IRC. There PA has assembled a group of people who are both politically neutral and eager to help people do just what you are doing now.

Second, start a channel. PIck a word for your alliance, join that channel. Once you're the only one there with an @ by your name, you've arrived at your new home.

Third, get those people you can trust in there, and get P in your channel.

Now you're set to begin recruiting by word of mouth, but NO ANNOUNCEMENTS. If you can't get at least 10 people in your alliance just on your friends, galaxy mates, their friends, etc, then its a failed experiment.

Once you have an established core memberbase, some very basic infrastructure, and a little experience, you're ready to come to this board and announce your alliance. You will not tell them how crap your alliance is, and how you're new and don't know what you're doing. You will tell them what you've accomplished, how many dedicated active players you have, about your desire to do well next round, about your strong tight knit community, or any other GOOD things you have.

YOU WILL NOT POST ON THIS BOARD WITHOUT HAVING AN IRC CHANNEL.

To do so shows everyone in the world that you've ignored every piece of advice available to you. You WILL require your members to be in IRC on a regular and consistent basis. The in-game forums, and attack and defense tools are not meant to be adequate and will not be even laughablly sufficient for you to be half-way serious about this.

If you've done everything here and you've got a small memberbase, then you may be ready to be an alliance that people take seriously. You may not be experienced, and you have many many more lessons to learn, but if you can't master these prerequisites, you just can not be successful in this game.

Good Luck!

Good Luck!

Alliance Structure

Introduction

Before the structure of an Alliance can even be thought about it is very important to make sure those thinking about making the alliance have got what it takes. Making an alliance takes a lot of dedication and hard work; it takes many hours of time given up to make sure even the tiniest of details is worked out. Alliances are more than just a bunch of players deciding to join one alliance; it is a community and a place where all work towards one goal. Without the members the alliance does not exist, it is with the members in mind that every working detail of the alliance must be built.

HC aka High Command:

HCs are the backbone of an alliance. An alliance can not live for long without commanders to organize and make the decisions for everything their alliance does. HC’s do everything from promoting the different officers to making sure the alliance has all the working tools and channels it needs to making the political decisions. Anything and everything that goes on within an alliance should be known by the high commanders.

Officers:

There are many different kinds of Officers, all which involve different kinds of skills and different types of activity to make their part in an alliance work. In some cases the skills of one type of officer will closely resemble the skills of another type of example, in these cases officer positions can overlap or an officer can hold more than one position. In small alliances where there are not as many members to help do the work this can help to cover all positions that are needed. Officers need to have a lot of motivation and maturity to hold up their part in the alliance.

Defence Officer:

Defence Officers are needed at all times in a day. In most cases the number of defence officers an alliance needs depends on the size of the alliance and the activity level of the chosen defence officers. It is good to make sure there is at least 1 defence officer in each time zone or at least 1 on at any time of day. Defence officers are the ones that handle all the fleet sending to defend the members. They are responsible for making sure a planet is covered, making sure the ships sent are not getting destroyed, and making sure they are not wasting ships that may be needed later. In some cases they will also be involved in helping to set up retaliations on the planets attacking their alliance and also getting friendly fire recalled. Whoever is chosen for this position needs to spend a lot of time active online and be ready for many sleepless nights; they also need to have good military skills.

Attack Officer:

Attack Officers are a lot like Defence Officers, the only real difference is that they handle the attack organizing. They are needed during attack hours and the hours before target picking and galaxy choosing is to begin. They need to have the skills to pick good targets and to not hit friendly planets. They have to have the charisma to get the members to want to attack and to want to keep attacking no matter how hard the battles get. They need to be creative enough to know how to keep the attacks fun and to find new ways to keep interests up even when stagnation of the game seems to be happening.

Intelligence:

Intelligence is probably one of the harder areas to learn to do. It in most cases takes someone who already has the skills to root out all the information and gossip they can. In most cases this also means having the charisma to get people to talk and say too much while keeping as much information that they know to themselves. They will also in most cases be in charge of organizing all known information on all planets in the universe and knowing how to use it to the best advantage for the alliance. Intelligence handling is important because it can be what makes or breaks an alliance when it is organizing its political standing in the game. An example would be: Alliance A decides to ally with Alliance B, Alliance B only wants Alliance A around to fight the war then they plan to kill of Alliance A once the other threat is out of the way. If the Intelligence officer knows this information they are able to pass it on to those handling external affairs to find a better solution that is the best for their alliance. This is also a case where the Intelligence Officer may also be the External Affairs Officer and doing both jobs.

Internal Affairs:

Internal Affairs Officers deal with anything and everything that affects the inner workings of the alliance, especially anything affecting the happiness of the members or community. They act a lot like a Human Relations job would, making sure the questions, comments, disagreements, and anything else the members may need get answered or at least directed to the right place. They may also be in charge of helping the new members to settle in or to clear out the old inactive members an alliance may still have. Whoever is picked for this position needs a lot of spare time, and be readily available to listen to anyone at any time needed.

External Affairs:

External Affairs deal with the public’s view of your alliance as well as how other alliances view your alliance. It also has to do with making some publicity and hype for your alliance and letting everyone know what your alliance is about. In some cases it can also involve keeping up the communication with other allies and keeping everyone happy. Whoever an HC picks for this position MUST have good communication skills and charisma. They must be able to carry the messages and view of their HC’s without getting out of line. They must also always remember where their loyalties lie.

Recruitment:

Recruitment officers are one of the most important elements of an alliance. They are what builds the alliance and keeps new blood flowing into the alliance. They must be good thinkers and able to act off their own intuitions. They have to be ready at all times to listen and react just as fast. Recruitment officers will have to know how to ask all the normal questions required of them to ask but also make up questions just as quickly to acquire new or more information from those they are questioning. On top of this it helps if they know a bit on the technical side and are able to weed out the suspicious players and spies. They must also be good at getting the information that the applicant does not say for use to help the recruitment process. They will also need to be available many hours in a day as new applicants can show up at any time. And last but not least, a recruiter MUST have a very good memory, they will have to remember those that have applied in the past and watch for things like nick changes or spies, and within the alliance they will have to watch for members not holding up to what they have said in their interviews.

Techies:

Techies are all your people that help run your tools, help program your tools, help set up your forums and keep them updated, and help keep your IRC and other means of communication running. A techie must have very good technical skills and know what he is doing, this can not be someone that says they know how to make an IRC channel or how to make a small script but someone who really knows their stuff. Second they must be among your most loyal of members as they will know close to 100% of what is going on within the alliance. Another important aspect of a techie is having someone that you are sure you can get in contact with 24 hours a day 7 days a week to fix whatever has gone wrong, Planetarion does not stop ticking so neither can your tools, forums, or IRC.

Military Strategies

Synopsis:

We will introduce you to a lot of basic and advanced military tactics. For new allies it is almost always better to keep their attack and defence system simple, so it is easier to get it running.

Basic attack strategies:

At round start a new alliance should start with attacking only to get roids and grow. Order your members to build up the speed tree as fast as possible and order them to have their first ships ready at the end of protection.

The first attacks should start in the first night after protection ended or if you want to play aggressively, you start your first attacks in tick 73 when most people do not have ships and still a high travel time or (eta).

Also, before you start the first attack, make sure you collected all coordinates from your members and make sure they have applied in game. If you have alliances or NAP's make sure you exchange coordinates lists before you set up your first attack. Give your Military Officers arbiter access or a list of friendly and protected planets and gals, so you can prevent "friendly fire".

Before Round starts it is also necessary to select you alliance's scanner(s). These people will concentrate their research into scan tree and build many Wave Amplifiers. To avoid people making multi planets to get scans, you should offer your scanners benefits such as, they can claim their targets first in attacks. This job should be done preferably by Officers but also trustworthy members can do it.

First 72 ticks are over. You ordered your members to build ships and research the speed tree. Now we continue with organising your first attacks. Please read also read the How to Find a Target section from the BC Guide

Your Officer or you have chosen your first targets.

If you have an attackbot or a web based attack planner, set it up securely and add your scans. If you don’t have any of these, just create a secure channel and do claiming in topic. The scans you should put into a .txt file and upload them if you have any web space. There are websites with free web space available if you don't have this.

If you do not have any of this or find this too troublesome, post the scans on your forums. In game alliance forums can also be used for this purpose.
Take care that your target gals are well covered. Give your members a set time (a few ticks before launch time) when claiming starts. Try to find an attack time when most of the other people are sleeping (experience showed good attack times are during the Europe night).

Make sure your members launch the attack all the same time. If attack participation is bad, you should make alliance rules about attack activity. Also needed for successful attacks is that scanners research ASAP the Jumpgate Probe scans and after they researched it, they also must have a fleet slot for this scan available so they can check to see if there is defence coming or not.

Advise your members to check their attacks and not to suicide. Defence fleets will usually only be sent in time of main attack fleet landing and you most likely can not check it before jumpgate probe scans are out. So take care that your scanner researches that ASAP.

Activity is the key to having successful attacks. In the command crew a clear responsibility assignment is needed. Make sure each evening an Officer is on duty for attacks. Make sure each day a scanner is on duty when attacks are set up. Most likely a row of test scans are needed before you can decide if it is a successful gal to attack or not.

Make a Military channel with only Military HC's and Military Officers invited. If you don’t have tools, add in topic what gals will be hit by your alliance so there are NOT 2 Officers organising an attack on the same target galaxy. Also if you control a galaxy that makes gal attacks and get targets from your alliance, book them also (in topic). If you have alliances or NAPs with military cooperation, make a shared military channel.

Advanced Attack Strategy

These strategies are mostly used in times of war with certain alliance(s). Try to keep these attacks as secret as possible. Involve only trusted members. If you control any gals which are doing consistent gal attacks, check which allies they have in the gal and if they can be trusted to join the attacks. This attack strategy SHOULD NOT be used before jumpgate scans are available.

Multi Wave Attacks

The most used attack strategy to take out a single planet or galaxy is the Multi Wave Attack. You attack the same planet / galaxy in waves again and again until that planet/gal's alliance is out of defence then you can raid and bash the planet / galaxy. If you plan this attack in a longer time, make sure all planets are covered in all waves. Advise your members to attack/fake attack planets that are not covered. If you setup a multi wave attack as counter or spontaneous attack, check before if you have enough members with free fleet available.

Fleet Catching

Through the changes during the last round one of the most challenging kinds of attacking was the Fleet Catching. This kind of attack means, you attack a planet at a certain time so your attacking fleets and the enemy's returning fleet are landing in the same tick at the enemy's planet. So they do not have any chance to send their fleet away (short: he can't run his fleet). This kind of attack can be planned ahead but is based on when you see a hostile planet landing on one of your members or you get info from your Intel that they landed on a planet. For fleet catches Fighter/Corvette fleets should be used because its hard to defend it, due to short travel time or ETA.

When is a fleet catch possible?

-Catching a hostile Fighter/Corvette fleet is only possible when you launch at them exactly in the tick they landed, countering with an attack fleet of Fighter/Corvette.

-Catching a hostile fleet with Frigates/Destroyer in is only possible when:
- you launch at them when they recall an attack anywhere at eta1
- they landed anywhere with such a defence fleet and you launch in the same tick
- you launch on their landing tick with Frigates/Destroyer fleet.

-Catching a fleet with Battleships/Cruiser works similar to catching a Frigates/Destroyer fleet, only here you have the hostile fleet eta +2 so you have some more possible options. Summarising, the best chance for a fleet catch is to attack with Fighter/Corvettes on the hostile planet, just make sure you land at the same tick when their fleet returns. We have given you some examples of how to find out that, to name all possible ways in theocracy, its not the place for here.
When you have enough members with enough fleet and ships available, order them to tell you their complete fleet. Calculate the battle. Make sure you will kill their entire fleet not only the returning fleet. Send massive overkill fleets to avoid defence or to kill hostile defence fleets. Order your scanners to make jumpgate probe scan when the target can not receive anymore defence in time and also unit scan the defenders. Calculate the worst case scenario that could happen. If in this calculation you still lose less then the enemy, order your members to land. Also increase the salvage donations to the defenders in your decision. Also make sure you still have enough defence at home to defend any counters.

Counter attacks

This strategy to attempt to force defenders or attackers against your alliance to recall. If you have not completely covered your incomings , get a counter attacker. This might make the attacker recall when they can not receive enough defence. In the same way you can try this when anyone is defending against your attacks. Attack the defender also so they may recall their defence to prevent their own asteroid loses.

Killing a hostile top ranked planet & Leeching defence

Now we come to the final point in attack strategy. You need to destroy a big top ranked hostile planet or galaxy. That means your enemy is active. It also means you need to find a special strategy to beat them. We can give you only some examples here, no perfect solution because a perfect solution does not exist, but lets check what ways you can try to get it arranged.

First of all you need to know what alliance your target is. Therefore you also need good Intel so check the other parts of this manual on how to get a working Intel. Then you need to know some other top ranked planets of the same alliance or some HC / Officer coordinates.

When you want to destroy a certain planet, the best strategy is still the fleet catch we have introduced you already. Here it is helpful to leech enemy defence before. When you expect that the target will land anywhere at a time you know, send fake attacks to top planets or HCs of the same alliance. So they have to send a lot defence out that isn't available for the real attack anymore. That's called "leeching defence". Then do a fleet catch attack like we told you before.

If you are not able to fleet catch them, do the same "defence leech" attacks and send some ticks later a massive overkill attack to the enemy planet. But this is very risky because if they don't have enough defence available, they will run all fleets from the planet before you land. In this case you would be still the winner by roiding the planet and it would raise the moral in your alliance. But the enemy fleet would be still alive.

The real risk in it is, you send an attack that is defended which you can't calculate completely. Now you have to decide if you land or not. Mostly its better to recall if they don't run because also your enemies are mostly skilled and active players that know what fight they can win. Instead of this you should think about Multi Wave Attacks this case, we previously introduced you to. These are mostly much more effective. Also here you can try to "leech defence" as before.

What to do with not attacking members?

If anyone doesn't attack with their alliance or doesn't launch on their claimed target regularly, contact the member and find out the reasons for their behaviour. Give them a warning they have to attack with their alliance regularly and/or they have to launch at their claimed target. If this warning doesn't help, think about excluding such members from attacks or about kicking them from your alliance.

Getting additional fleet power

There are 2 major ways to get additional attack power. The first one is organising Battle groups (BG). If your Officers have good friends in other alliances, it may be a good idea to create BGs where you put members of your own alliance and members of other alliances into 1 attack group. For example you could make BGs that attack only big targets and do kill attacks of hostile top planets. These BGs should be led by a trusted officer. To attract other people to join your BGs you could offer them protection from your alliance, but recruitment of such BGs should not be done by public announcements, it's always better to keep them secret and invite friends of your members and Officers.

The other major way is to include galaxies into your attacks. If your members control a galaxy and this galaxy is doing gal attacks, try to make them attack with your alliance. That means they get targets from you and respect your arbiter (protect your members in attacks). This galaxy should get gal protection in reward. If they are attacking with you, but you do not protect them, they will leave your side very soon.
A friendly advice at the end, try to avoid attacking galaxies with members in. It won't help your alliance to destroy the galaxy where your members are. Galaxies can send defence to your member, galaxies will report incomings of your members to your alliance. You simply need the galaxies. If there are hostile top players or HC's in the galaxy, it won't be possible to protect the whole galaxy all the time, but "normal" galaxies should be protected.

Basic Defence Strategies

Having an organised defence is much easier then organising in attacks. But that's only the theory, don't expect your members to defend voluntary all the time. Players normally prefer attacking and try to gain more asteroids instead of defending anywhere voluntarily. So you will need strict rules and a strong organisation. First of all you need Defence Commanders (short: DC). For defence organisation they are essential. When you promote your DC crew, check their online times first. At least 1 DC has to be on duty all the time. Tell your DC crew to make plans who is on duty at what time. The best is when DC crew makes a daily meeting where the duty times are fixed. If it doesn't work, change inactive DC's.
At any time after tick start you will receive your first incomings. But before this happens you have to make some decisions and rules. First of all, you have to decide where you organise defence.
(1) In your private main channel. Advantage: All people who are online, can see the defence call.
(2) In a permanently defence channel. Advantage: This channel is only used for defence and nobody talks about other issues there.
(3) In a temporary defence channel, means you open for each defence call a channel were defence is sorted. Advantage: Only people with available fleet will/should join the channel. You see within some minutes how much people have defence available.
Decide yourself what kind you prefer. It doesn't make that big difference. After your first decision, you need to know how to organise it. Most helpful are highlights or channel notices for that.
(1) Alliance highlights: Order all members to set a special highlight with a smart sound or music on it, e.g. you could take "hostile" or "!defence" as such highlight words.
(2) Channel highlights: The DC on duty use a notice to wake up all people and tell your members the orders, e.g. /notice #UsedChannel
Make sure your DC work is secure. They should only give the needed information to the members, to give 2 examples:
- /notice #UsedChannel Anti Fi/Co fleet needed " eta 7 " PM me your defence ships!!
- !defence Anti FR/DE needed " eta 8 " PM me your defence ships!!
Then the member should parse their available fleet into query of DC. He will order them where to send their fleets. This also to prevent a spy from collecting all coordinates of your members within a short time. Give your DC crew arbiter access or a coordinate list, so they know who is a really a member and who not. Some people always try to fake incomings so you send defence fleets to wrong planets.

Advanced Defence Strategies

This part will show you how to protect yourself from incomings especially at times when the member with incomings isn't online and what to do against not defending members.

Make sure you notice all incomings

This round 3 people can make a so called buddy group. Means 3 people can join 1 galaxy together. Advise your members to make sure at least 1 of this 3 people / member is checking gal status regularly. Each buddy group should make plans as to who is checking for incomings and at what time. Advise to your members to do it, but even 3 people wont be able to check it each tick during a 3 month period. So it's necessary your members cooperate with their gals. They should tell their galaxies which alliances they are in, what your public channel is and how to report incomings to your alliances. Therefore your DC on duty will have to be in your public all the time. Advise people also in topic of your public channel how to report incomings of your members. DCs should have op, halfop or voice in your public channel so non-members also see that this officer relates to your alliance.

Make sure you have always enough defence available

That's for sure the most difficult part. Therefore you need to give out some clear rules. First of all you should count the defence activity of each member. This can be done in web based tools, IRC bots and on normal text files, Excel files or in your Officer forums. Additionally, you should advise your members to have always a certain part of their fleet at home for defence, of course always a fleet slot open for defence. So your members shouldn't be allowed to attack with 3 fleets if you want to have a working defence. For offensive attacking alliances members should be ordered to have 10-25% of their fleet as defence fleet available, defensive and counter strategies should order their members to keep 25-50% of their whole fleet at home for defence and counters.
It may happen that you run completely out of defence and there are still members with incomings. Order these not covered people to counter their attackers if there isn't another possibility left. Read also the manual part where you get introduced into cluster strategies, also cluster can be a possibility for your members to receive defence.
If you notice most of your members are weak against a special ship class and most the defence calls against this ship class can't be covered, advise them to build a certain amount of ships that target this ship class. Last but not least, check regularly your list for defence activity. When you see inactive member (in defending), exclude them from receiving defence and give them a last warning to change. If the retribution shows success, stop it again. If the retribution doesn't show any success, you should kick that member.

How to protect top ranked planets?

Well, at the start there is not much you can do about except the same things you advised with your other members. This changes when jumpgate probe scans are out. Advise your officer and scanners to scan all top100 or top250 (whatever you see as top ranked) planets of your alliance when they and nobody of their buddy group is in IRC. If there is anybody you want to push or keep in top ranks till the end (e.g. top50 or top10) you should always keep some defence on standby only for these top players.

R13 Name Competition.

Despite there not being much information about Round 13 yet released, it is going to happen! As such we need a name, and therefore we will be running the customary name competition.

Here's how it works,

If you can think of a good name for Round 13 then all you need to do is e-mail it to A2@planetarion.com with the subject line "R13 name comp". Don't forget to include your nickname so we know who's submitted it. You can submit as many names as you want to, but the deadline is 23:59 GMT on Sunday 16th January.
The winner will not only get to see their name being used throughout the round, but will also recieve a free credit for the round. In the event of the winning name being submitted more than once, the first person to submit it will recieve the credit.

To inspire you here are the names of the previous rounds of Planetarion:

Round 1 - The Beginning
Round 2 - The Struggle for Power
Round 3 - The New Dawn
Round 4 - The Tides of War
Round 5 - The Price of Freedom
Round 6 - First Encounters
Round 7 - Critical Diplomacy
Round 8 - Final Legacy
Round 9 - Redemption
Round 10 - Genesis
Round 11 - A Legend Reborn
Round 12 - The Edge of Darkness

</td></tr>
