DLR, or Dark Lords Rising, were a highly active, primarily American-based battlegroup who experienced success as part of NewDawn, and other alliances such as Conspiracy Theory, throughout PAX. They played as a separate alliance in Round 16, Round 30, Round 31, Round 33 and Round 34, and one round tagged as h3lls angels during Round 20 in honor of a good friend we lost that year. ==Round 2: The Struggle for Power==
HR didn't exist for most of this round, with practically all our members being apart of -=42=- under the command of Zyth/Earthwalker. Zyth left due to -=42=- agreeing to become part of ICD (with B8S, K9) and Earthwalker was starting to become inactive. He promoted SethMace to HC (council consisted also of Willow, Landor, DrEggs & Chino), where Seth began work on making ideas for -=42=-s structure and organisation.

-=42=- Went downhill and Earthwalker had become very inactive. HC had an important meeting which allowed Seth to put across his ideas. All HC rejected them and his attention swayed from -=42=- due to HC's lack of "forward" motion.

ICD had by this time introduced Squads in preparation for "Round 3" and SM took it on to create an elite -=42=- wing, using the same principles he wanted to employ to the whole of -=42=- (as a test). Members such as Cartman, miro, iPad, diesel, Wild9 &Turbo Nutter, were some of the first members in the squad.

The squad was to be called "Howling Rain" :)

Forum was created and rules were in place & IRC looked busy (considering HR were no bigger then 15 members!)... they looked forward to the next round.

Round 3: The New Dawn
It was becoming apparent that ICD were severely hampered by Virii's inactiveness. Some long-term members were plotting to overthrow ICD command & HR certainly weren't happy with some of the other Squads activeness.

HR left ICD and for a short while went it alone but they still needed the shelter of a bigger alliance.

Zyth, an old -=42=- friend and member of Seths TFC clan, invited HR into Sedition, were things at the beginning looked superb. IRC was very active in all of the Sed Wings (hehe, shame we didn't know half of them were spies;( ) and there were attacks often.

Due to Sedition being overrun with spies and the main Sed galaxies being targeted by VtS & Fury, Sed collapsed, again leaving HR without an alliance. One good thing from this situation, was Zyth was recruited into HR, with his many contacts and vast experience, would prove to help HR in recruitment and organisation.

HR by this time was growing in size and had created some good solid foundations (New HC Promotions for Zyth, Buster, Jabz, Cartman, Avatar, iPad, gC (a.k.a Gricey), S_E_T_H [ a different seth:) ] & Redeemer)

Genesis II (aka G-II) was the last "good" alliance of Round3, who had the size to make a stand & unite with others against the bigger alliances.

Planetarion had by this time become practically a professional sport, with the best players spending countless, un-sociable hours increasing their score.

GII leader Dukez had impressed Seth, he was confident and seemed very in control of his alliance, HR join G2 as a wing. HR membership was increasing under the protection of G-II and with their own wing channel, were able to build up a strong community spirit (which to this day still stands strong).

Fury, Legion & ReBorn had become a problem for every alliance and it was decided G2 would be the first to do something about it. HR worked closely with G2 on this and had also approached other alliances like ICD, asking them to aid our stand. Most alliances actually declared war on the Big3, with G2 being one of the final alliances to commit themselves.

Making a raid on the biggest Fury galaxy (who happened to have a HR member in), the G2 raid was a disaster. Spies had infiltrated the attack channel & were feeding false information to it, causing most people to eventually pull, even though victory would have been claimed if they didn't pull.

A 2nd attempt was organised, this time G2 HC were useless and HR officers had to step in on short notice, to try and help the situation go as smoothly as possible. This had frustrated HR and the newly in placed HC were wanting to leave G2. The attack failed for similar reasons as the first, which showed us G2 was insecure and could not be relied on.

HR HC decide to make Howling Rain into a fully fledged alliance, so if anything goes wrong, only we can be blamed for it. Preparations and contacts are pulled in from everywhere, as we remove our membership limit and refine structure & communication methods (New Private Forum & IRC Channel Network expanded).

It was around this time, HR brought in alliances such as TOA (who were lead by Aryn) and SH (who were lead by Exode), this increased our membership from between 10-20 actives, not to mention the good individual players it brought us.

Round 4: The Tides of War
Round 4 is seen by many, as HRs best effort yet to become a big alliance player. Recruitment of players was happening quickly. 50, then 70 and before we knew it we had over 100 members and activity was great.

It was in HRs early development that many of the still used rules & regulations were brought in (we were the first alliance to stop members joining our public channel - well apart from HC & officers:) ).

A player named Fubber(who later became HC) was recruited by Zyth, fubber was one of the best recruitments HR made over this period. He had been developing a website for us (he was highly skilled) and had also brought many good, active players into HR.

Our website was one of the best in PA at this time & with our irc bot Wolfy (developed by gC), we had good technology at ours fingers:).

HR grew even further, eventually totaling over 300 Members on our site. HC felt it was time for HRs name to be known, so a few "events" were held to increase publicity for us.

The infamous [Woof] channel walk was one of the highlights, with 70 HRs joining the major alliances channels spamming "Woof", it was very organised and did great for member motivation. We capped the night off with a retaliation on a large Legion galaxy, which was mildly successful but did achieve its main objective (to stop it hitting HRs gals in-para).

Round 4 showed HC main things about how an alliance should & should not be run, our recruitment was tightened and we started to look further into increasing activity and improving structure but for many it was too late.

We lost many members around this stage & many were inactive (this was the time of the mass kicking's of 100-150 members). We started to find a few intelligence holes which were sealed & things weren't going as smoothly as we hoped.

Fubber had by this time developed a new website but didn't have the time to work on it, also the server he was using was unstable & kept crashing.

Forcing Seths hand, many people were demoted and a few new promotions made (Linny & Jabz became HC).

Looking into re-organising HR, searching for a new website & looking into extending certain alliance relations, the end of Round 4 was approaching.

Negotiations with UV, ICD, YHQ and hirr had failed, with ICD, YHQ & hirr going off with their own ideas (eventually forming Patience [P]), the proposed alliance of Harmony, seemed never to be.

At this time, Seth for various reasons had become inactive for around 2/3 weeks. HC kept things running but members left and things weren't looking too good for HR and Round 5.

Seth very kindly returned:) and the HC began to get the ball rolling again.

Relations with UV were re-established, HC started to check out Alliance Hosting and the "Wolverine" system was introduced by Seth, to increase member participation in the daily running of HR.

With the new Wolverines In Place and HRs new Alliance Hosting Website up & running, some organisation & communication was finally implemented into HR.

Round 4 had ended and talks with UV & BD were well underway into the forming of an alliance. At first a private server would be used, however HR did not go for this idea and offered a channel on PA IRC, as the main member meeting place (this channel was once the Galaxy channel for a Big HR Gal).

DUH was formed just in time for Round 5.

Round 5: The Price for Freedom
Round 5 continued off from where Round 4 had ended, running very smoothly.

IRC channels had been set up between DUH members, the fundamental rules had been laid down and the members from each alliance were becoming very friendly with each other.

The round started the beginning of October, things went well as HR started recruiting old members and IRC activity was looking superb.

Yet again, Seth became inactive for 2/3weeks due to a serious illness. Over this time a 3rd fall from grace occurred, with many members seeming to loose patience and leave/become inactive.

On Seths return, things were acted upon instantly to regain some sort of activeness, this was achieved in 2days of work and a word of thanx must go out to the likes if Ilh and Behemoth who had kept the boat afloat, while their leader was away (click here to read a NewsUpdate from around that time).

The Wolverines were shuffled about, with new promotions and demotions being made and more emphasis being placed on a wide scale leadership system, rather then a 1 man-show.

DUH had yet to become operational, due to lack of defence needed in the early round stages, but around this stage, had decided to pick up planet tagging. DUH became ranked in the top10 planetarion planet tags (and when galaxy tagging begun, [DUH] reached 7th on the sandman galaxy rankings).

Slowly beginning to increase membership again, HR recruited & recruited through HR members (although recruitment was greatly hampered by the reduction in player numbers, caused by pay2play), credit must be given to the DUH galaxy attacks, allowing HR to attack in larger numbers.

Things had settled down comfortably and like every round, HR had many members in top flight galaxies (although getting them to tag was another thing;)). Unfortunately, a huge stalemate between the major alliances had surfaced, with each good alliance, seemingly unable to attack anyone due to naps.

This created for most players, one of the most boring rounds in PA history, in fact wars between these big alliances only broke-out in the last few weeks of the round, when this finally happened everyone applauded. Unfortunately DUH had to remain neutral due to, too many conflicting galaxies on both sides of the war.

DUH's nightly attacks continued and were mainly being organised & planned by HR members (likes of Bloodthirster), this resulted in the creation of a New Wolverine Division - Extreme. [HR-X] were to fully prepare attacks for HR/DUH with scans and good organisation.

Even though too many nice targets were forbidden (due to DUH's neutral stance in the war), HR-X managed to choose plenty of good targets, considering there was a blatant lack of them around, again credit must go to HR members like Bloodthirster, Ardeaus, Roady, 2Pac, BigKev & Ivo, who assisted this greatly on many occasions.

As the round grew closer to the end, DUH just before Christmas, were informed by UV of their departure from the DUH triad. This came as a shock to HR & BD (not to mention some UV HC), we felt let down by UV but acted instantly (well, under the circumstances of Xmas in like 2days) in searching for a replacement alliance.

UV eventually decided to reject the merger with KoN over a management dispute, in turn wanting to rejoin DUH. DUH HC discussed this heavily and decided to accept UV back but to search for a 4th alliance, to strengthen the alliance.

The Wolverines were at this stage, starting to really get the HR Pack "Running Swiftly on all Paws". With common goals & determination, HR HC finally had a body of people, organised and willing to help HR in the 4 main areas, which had been outlined a full round before.

Havos period had arrived and DUH were planning for next round, unfortunately HR Command were getting tired of UV's input into DUH. Their HC activity was low and it was becoming apparent to us, they were becoming more tied to NoS as the days went on.

Discussions were created, in turn deciding HR would part company with UV for Round 6, this was announced at the very final DUH meeting and also saw the views of BD on this subject, with them agreeing with HR.

HR and BD finished the round well together and planned to move into the next round, with a 3rd ally. ROCK, Silver & BluePhnx were all in the running for possible allies/ naps.

Round 6: First Encounters
Round 6 was a return to form after the dismal Round 5, the major powerblocks fought to the death, leaving the rest of the PA Universe largely un-touched. HR went into Round6 more promising then she had ever done, at the start of a new campaign.

One reason in particular aided this - ICD merged most of its remaining core memberbase into our ranks. Giving us a well needed activity boost and bringing along with it some great experience & knowledge.

It was a strange event, not just to see some old familiar faces but for the fact HR had started out as an ICD wing!

HR and BD had in the meantime searched for a third companion but could not find one that was of good enough standard.

The political overview was very one sided for Round6, with basically every major alliance fighting against the usual Furgion domination. The newly named HyB partnership of HR and BD would have a good round regarding galaxy & sandman rankings. Although never officially declaring our allegiance, we were very much anti-furgion and had napped with WP, NoS & CeLL, with a very unofficial agreement with Xan.

Unfortunately this agreement was only with HR and caused many problems, politically for HyB galaxies (specifically the BD ones).

HyB attacks were very limited when compared to the teamwork of the previous round but when they did happen they were very successful. HR attacked alone this round, as activity was usually good enough to not need assistance with coverage but that didn't mean we couldn't coordinate with BD on clusters:)

This round saw Linny & Ilh stepping down from their HC positions and with Kev and Bloodthirster stepping in!

It was a big round for Command shuffles, each of the Wolverine divisions were expanded and improved. The ICD influx also, as mentioned previously - gave us some great members to work with. We had Chaos switching from his original HR-X position, to join Nano and gC in the newly formed HR-S division (techys). Our recruiting wing Paws was also founded to increase our memberbase.

Approaching the end of Round6, we were looking for another ally to complete the triad but it wasn't looking good.

14th March 02 was the exact day [NoS]Wipeout first approached HR over extending our NoS relationship and basically going to bed - By Winging:). Wing status is of course nothing new for HR, while technically we have only ever been a Battlegroup, there isn't much difference to being a Wing.

This was a huge decision and at the time there was also talk of Silver (who were going to fold), of joining our ranks just as ICD did. Blood, Fush, Kev and Seth were worried with HRs identity, how could it survive by giving away direct control of who we fight against/ for and without our command having the final say? Not to mention ditching our long standing allies BD (who we had also approached regarding winging with us).

By the 3rd April is was unlikely HR would be a NoS wing, the HC wasn't happy with a few uncertainties and we didn't like some of the restrictions. However a second meeting with Wipeout and Dingo (on the 8th April), totally turned around the situation. We had pushed BD into the direction of Xylem, hoping they wouldn't be left alone if we did move with NoS.

16th-17April 02 was when HR officially agreed to join NoS as a wing - Fush and Seth would represent HR to the rest of the NoS command. Round7 preparation on HRs part was rushed, due to such a large amount of effort put into HR-NoS discussions.

Round6 went into Havoc and Xylem had also agreed to join NoS as a 4th wing - BD were to receive Vengeance into their ranks for a member boost, aswell as an alliance named OI. During round 7 they were allied with FAnG (they later allied with UV - by the end of Round7 would have merged to form VD).

HR was a fully fledged wing of NoS, there had been a slow transition over to NoS IRC and to their Forums/ Arbiter. HR of course continued to use #fluffyfur as the infamous name for our private channel. We used the Havoc period to show the NoSers, that our command would be a great help (we BCed at every possible chance!) and our memberbase active & friendly:)

Round 7: Critical Diplomacy
HR-NoS was to be allied with Wolfpack, Xanadu and Elysium for this round, a partnership which turned out to be a total disaster on the teamwork part.

While arbiter violations were acceptable, the joint IRC server wasn't of sufficient quality and ment NoS was kept away from some of the joint attacks.

Paws was taken over by Ardeaus who would take it as his own baby and see what new blood he could get HR. We continued to use Alliance Hosting as HRs website and the Wolfy & Fang bots continued to be developed by gC & Chaos. Thrud and Buster were also developing a completely new HR website.

The HR galaxies for this round were organised by Kev and Seth, most of the allied galaxies had already been sorted and as Seth finalised the final members into other spots (Felagund helped greatly). It was apparent we would have too many HRs in some galaxies but at the time there was no other option.

HR Command was having mixed results in their new hunting grounds. The HR-X were fitting in very well with the NoS BCs and Chaos was blowing NoS away with his technical knowledge & Thrud had made HRs very own BCalc!. However, at the time HRs community officers (HR-I) seemed to have stopped and HC itself was having problems (blood with exams and fush for inactivity). HRs recruitment division wasn't active at all, with Kev & Seth having to cover.

Mistwraith was promoted to spearhead the HR-I division and Blood had to leave HR due to RL issues - Chaos was promoted to HC status on the 9th July 02.

A HR community portal was in the making by Seth & Rebel and HR-I were finally organising some solid community events. The first of which was the piloting of the Great HR Woofage!

The end of the round was looming and HR HC were discussing its future, the round with NoS was great and we all learnt a lot but should we stay or move on? We had some clearly sexeh offers from Rock Jnr & vVv who both said they would let us wing into them<- the fact we were bigger then both of them was quite insulting lol (maybe you had to be there;P).

6th September 02 saw HRs long standing HC Kev, stand down due to RL issues, just as the last tick of Round 7s Havoc stopped.

Round 8 preparation was underway, everything was going well until we had a big situation with the organising of the NoS BC team. Wipeout who was to be sorting it out, went MIA so Seth had to step in and do the best he could. Then we had issues with IRC & Anakin (who left to form Adelante - in turn taking lots of old-skool and core NoS members).

Alliance Hosting was also totally deleted, so we were left without a website, we created a HR Announcements forum on the NoS forum.

Paws, our recruiting wing was closed on the 23rd September 02, due to a lack of manpower and for the fact Anoubis could be used more effectively - Illuminati and Howling Rain would pool their new recruits there, until they made the grade for promotion.

17th October saw the HC promotion of Mistwraith, just before the start of the next round and after the whole of PA seemed to be flaming NoS off on the forums - we laughed away the flames (mainly from our "allies" Xanadu who had folded with a bitter taste- end of Round 7 also saw the end of Legion).

Round 8: The Final Legacy
This was to be the final round of Planetarion - a legacy which span over 2years and many nights of laughter for us wolves:(.

In resilience to the stagnating rounds caused by Blocking, HR-NoS stood proud and alone against the rest of the Universe. Not even napping, we attacked and we defended by ourselves.

However, it would turn out the biggest problem for NoS was not the blocking but infact Battlegroups containing mixed Alliance planets. These BGs were sucking away our attack strength and in some cases costing us good membership.

Once again we were the first alliance to make a stand against a big negative for the Alliances in PA and demanded all members leave their BG & give 100% dedication to HR-NoS. The main aggravator of this decision on HRs part, was the fact that HR HC Fush left PA because of a Plush (a battlegroup) related issue. This was the last straw in weeks of damaging BG activity.

HR received some welcomed cheer in the form of another Great HR Woofage and roundly Oscars from Shrike, Misty and Crazybob.

With all the problems HR-NoS faced in Round8, defence was usually unbeatable. Many members shed tears at the amazing response and brotherhood which was shown.. this is something HR has always enjoyed and it was good to see it didn't change with NoS.

Unfortunately, Round8 was cut short as the servers hosts pulled the plug early on the Creators and left us all without a game to login to. A bitter finish but it wasn't to be the final end...

..while HR-NoS command discussed our future, trying to keep our members content while finding a suitable PA replacement - it returned. Hosted by Jolt, pa would be back and so would the planetarion Wing-Alliance of HR-NoS.

However, other's weren't so fortunate, alliances like Fury and Titans would not be. Although a lot of their members would flow into some new alliances, Olympians and Eclipse being the new big boys. Both with many Fury & Legion inside, plus at their core some of the strong Battle-Groups from the last round.

Pre-Round Preparations were well underway, HR-NoS did not want a repeat of last round's rush, so we organised our BC Team and mixed our Galaxies with our allies properly.

VoM were the first block to be announced, consisting of ViruS, Olympians and Mad-Cows - VoM caused a ripple effect across the major alliances, worried of being dominated by this huge opponent. NoS weren't the only alliance to vent their anger at the stirring of another Power Block round... however it was unavoidable.

Political discussions were well underway 3weeks before signups. A number of alliances ended up not being allied to NoS for Round9, although it was anticipated it would happen originally. One of these alliances was WolfPack who joined a triad with Eclipse and Elysium.

NoS were to ally with New Dawn, hirr, RaH and ETY (A Wing of ND).

Round 9: Redemption
The most promising round for HR since joining NoS as a wing, although politically speaking we were apart of the weakest block on paper, our memberbase had many quality players and our Command team were organised and prepared fully. Our block tried its best to mix galaxies, in turn increasing galaxy control and spreading defence requirements across the whole block. However, many NoS members were in galaxies containing WP and RaH had many in Eclipse galaxies.

With the start of the round underway, the usual rush of intelligence feedback began and NARH (NoS, Auld, RaH, hirr) started compiling Intel for military coordination. Our goals from the start were to attack VOMM (Vision, Virus, Olympians, Madcows, [[Ministry], i, ToT) galaxies. Which there was much uproar from Vommit members, as WEET (WP, Ely, Eclipse, ToT) were also targeting them, impressions were that Vommit contained the most members by far. Weet were very much underrated in size and as the inevitable happened and Vommit fell, HR-NoS and our allies were faced with a block who were three times larger.

One really big negative to come out of round9, was the amount of Dosing our private IRC server sustained. Many times nos galaxies received incoming, only to have our irc kicked from under our feet and cause defence communication problems. Chaos the HR-NoS Techy and WE, had to adjust the server setup to reduce this problem and this worked effectively.

There was a lot of background whispering around Round9s political curtains, while something's did not come to pass, HR-NoS's round did not finish as planned but was still good fun!

Round 9 came to an end early, with signs of Eclipse and ToT's domination pushing forward stagnation. The creators cut it short and announced a new, totally free round of planetarion - Round 9.5. Aiming to attract new blood into the small community and allow a more casual round for everybody, with the revamped Round 10 just around the corner.

Practically every major alliance went into Round 9.5 without any alliances, naps and more importantly - No Blocks.

Round 9.5: Resurrection
A strange round, one that was given little respect but ended up being quite a fun round. It was random and free, there were no signs of blocks or any major alliances. A lot of freedom to attack who you wanted, ensured an open battlefield.

However cheating was undertaken by a lot of big names and this was a round which LDK ended up dominating.

As this round wasn't taken as serious as previous ones, a lot of alliances used this to test out certain ideas. HR was at the front of this tactic and we implemented a totally new attack system for our wing. Attack Packs would allow members to attack with others of similar Launch time Preference and activity.

While it wasn't perfect, it did achieve its goal fully in improving HRs attack effectiveness by taking on certain elements of Battle Groups.

HRs attack organisation wasn't the only big change, at the end of the round we would go on to announce our planned departure from NoS. Having fought proudly with NoS since the end of Round 6 and made some great friends. The Wolf once more headed for the hills.. alone.

This split did not occur without some bloodshed, as a few members from both alliances decided to go with the other side. The split was loving done from a Command point of view though.

Round 10: Genesis
A brand spanking new PA game engine, a fresh Howling Rain with new technology and a great influx of eager members from ETY. Yer, you could say we were looking forward to Round X:). After a long history, Entity (headed by Prometheus and Korenchkin) decided to merge most of ETY into HR.

ETY were an alliance very similar to HR, in that they were defiantly proud of their alliance community and both parties found the merger pretty smooth. It's safe to say, no other alliance in the History of Planetarion, could compete with HRs experience in dealing with such situations.

Things looked set for PAX as the round got under way, but things would soon change. Korenchkin, who was drafted in to head up the HR-I division, decided that he just couldn't muster up the will to play PA anymore, and left us before even signing up to the game. Two months later, Prometheus who came from ETY and joined the Military Council announced the same thing. The new technology was still not done, and things were moving slowly.

At this point, Chaos became inactive, as work and his newborn son took more of his time, resulting in all development on things like Arbiter, Attack system and IRC services being put on hold, leaving HR with only beta versions or in many cases no version at all of the vital tech needed.

Not soon after, SethMace was suddenly left without internet access from home, and only sporadic access from his university. With Prometheus leaving and ilh slipping steadily into inactivity, the role as Military Council became more a role of Military Commander, and it was a task Henck (aka Kamikazze) was more than capable of taking on.

While HR limped to try and recover from these blows, the universe was at war. FAnG and Dragons slightly on top. In the last days of the round, a FAnG HC managed to post his login details in a public channel, and soon after almost half of FAnG found themselves kicked from the ingame alliance. If this was his doing, or someone abusing his planets access after he posted his details noone will know, but in the end it resulted in Elysium stealing the victory.

Round 10.5: The Awakening
PAX.5 came around fast, and caught HR mostly by surprise. With Mistwraith the only active HC, too much had to be done, and too little time was left to do it in and the round started with more chaos than order in HR.

A crippled HC and a dwindling memberbase, HR still managed to hold our own in the start of the round, but as the round got underway, the various powerblocks were getting to us. Being neutral has more downs than ups, and we soon saw activity slump as members were faced with ever higher odds. The officers did their best to keep things afloat and we managed to cover many incommings, only suffering during the late night when we simply didn't have enough people online.

At this time, Misty was approached by ]LCH[ with suggestions of a merger for this round only. Both our alliances were struggling, and we were both small enough that we would manage to fit our members into the 100 member limit in the game. After some time discussing it with the command team, the merger was a fact, and FYTFO was formed. Right at this time, Epcylon was promoted to HC to reduce the workload on Misty.

The new partnership brought new activity to both HR and LCH and defence was again virtually unlimited. Since LCH already had taken sides in the war, HR entered the war on their side, against FAnG, Phraktos and Mistu (FPM). By this time, FPM had too much of a gap for anyone to really be able to stop them, but FYTFO refused to roll over and die. For the remainder of the round, we defended nearly all reported incs on our members, often against staggering odds.

Towards the end, Phraktos broke with FAnG and Mistu, but it was too little too late, and their HC immediately broke down, leading to one of the most spectacular collapses in PA history. Phraktos went from #2 spot to #15 in 2 days, losing most of their members.

By the time of the Phraktos collapse, SethMace was back and Chaos started appearing on IRC with something resembling regularity again, although he still had much RL commitments to take care of. Suddenly HR had four semi-active HC instead of only Misty at the start of the round. With HC activity returning, new initiatives in order to spark interest in R11, FYTFO managed a decent #6 rank, with several top 15 gals flying the HR banner.

Chaos's immense workload was shifted towards Freedom, who had already developed a basic Arbiter for HR but through HC instructions, was to implement this further with features designed by Seth 3 rounds ago. At this time, Epcylon announced that with Sethy and Chaos returning, he would have to step down from his newly gained HC position in order to take care of the master thesis he had allowed to gather dust for a year, and a new gf.

With Round10.5 fast becoming a distant memory, HR was left with a medium sized memberbase and the instant option to carry on as a dual entity with LCH or to once again go it alone. Due to the ingame 100 member limit, HC were reluctant to stagnant any possible future recruitment (and inturn prevent HR from regaining full strength). So HR parted ways with LCH who had helped them in so many ways over the round, (many thanks must go to players like Acers, Nitros, Remy and Zmeu).

An energetic recruitment frenzy began straight away (Click Here for an Example), Exode & Seth started work on enticing back many of HRs past-greats and before we knew it, 80 members were signed-up waiting for Round11 to start. With the brand new arbiter already online and accepting applications from members, R11 was being hyped as the round HR would achieve its greatest ingame success. Due to the semi-return of Fury (in the form of 1up), blocking en'mass was largely prevented. Thus Command were confident the arena was set for HR to wrong all our doubters (most predicting a #10 ranking, if that, finish for HR) and produce our best round to date...

.. Then as with all pre-round excitement, a hint of negativity would hinder our progress. Freedom's arbiter was not complete and due to RL issues, would not be ready for the new round.

Round 11: A Legend Reborn
Even without the new Arbiter by Freedom, HR started well. While pre-round recruitment was just the ticket to boost HRs size, the two weeks prior to start had degraded our size with inactivity and we started with 60 members. 10th and proud, HR began its Round11 campaign with hunger.

Something that was clear from the first few days, our Attacks were lacking and so Zo0f was semi-promoted as an advisor to MC. Together, Henck & Zo0f would revolutionise HR attacks and in turn boost our growth that would gradually set our path to the higher reaches of the Universe.

1up had recruited/ poached many of the 1337 from established alliances, WolfPack being the alliance seemingly hurt the most by this. This and the fact that 1up had brought back from hibernation many of the old-skool Fury Battlegroups, ensured they would be strong contenders for #1. After winning R10.5, FAnG were seen as 1ups main threat and thus, after 2/3 weeks of war, FaNG surprisingly & worryingly collapsed under the pressure of the new Universal Power. With 1up out growing all competition, first signs of alliance cooperation between LCH, VisioN & Mistu emerged (the highest challengers for #1).

Command activity was greatly improved for R11, HR had by far its most active BC team and its quality of members was also higher then ever before. However, HC activity was still an issue with Chaos's RL once again conflicting with his activity and Misty for most of the round having to work long days.

After consistent targeting of WolfPack & ROCK Strongholds, HR had climbed to rank 6th. With NewDawn in 5th and ahead by 20million and Mistu in 4th ahead by 60million but with HRs growth being faster, the race was on. By this point, Zo0f had stepped down from his Attack Advisor position and Henck had also informed HC of his upcoming holiday. Hence, Jirikai and Teddy_Bear were promoted to the Military Council and would see out the rest of the round with Seth by motivating and organising HR military.

After a brief seat at the top of the Universal Rankings, LCH were knocked from #1 by 1up who had seen off all incomings from the un-official block of LCH, VsN & Mistu. LCHs previous #1 ranking had also been pivotal for the rounds politics, as this un-intentionally dissolved the Blocks determination to destroy 1up. Each member of the block now looked down instead of up for their targets and this was highlighted best by LCH's attempt to out-roid 1up, by hitting lower ranked alliances. With alliances like ND avoiding 1up planets and also many of the top100 planets being gal-napped to 1up, the fate of the winning alliance was set; 1up would dominate from this point onwards.

Intelligence was important for HR now, they needed to know the best galaxies to hit based on ND concentrated planets and thanks to Rebels HC Intell Arbiter, HR had a useful technology to aid the war effort. With each passing night, ND's growth was slowing and HRs was increasing. However, HR wasn't just eyeing up 5th at this point, as Mistu (having had planets deleted for cheating) were no longer so far away; 4th was becoming a very attainable achievement.

With 2/3 weeks remaining, 1up had become double the size of the #2 ranked alliance LCH. HR were ranked 5th and were only a few million behind Mistu. With ND now dropping behind, HR turned its attention to Mistu planets and once again, our attack strategy and activity was superb, closing the gap as each day passed.

Around this time, gC & Neon had taken on the task of producing a New HR Arbiter for the next round. One that would be worthy of the HR name and automate so many of the systems that have traditionally been done by hand. The team were determined to get HR the arbiter its always deserved but more importantly, get it finished in time for Round12. Linking irc systems to the web arbiter, this new arbiter was lining up to be the Best in Planetarion.

The final week or so was a stressful time indeed. Not only were HR receiving incomings from both ND & Mistu but random waving of our biggest planets from 1up. Much praise must go to our night owl DC team, the likes of Mortis, Jirikai, Xain, Apoc, Teddy, Hume and Henck (as well as officers such as Rebel, WwW, Exode, Neon and even Misty & Seth!).

Teddy_Bear (who had been preparing attacks with Cara, Goxx & Seth since Henck stepped down) was having RL issues and this in turn was hindering his activity. With help from Grebe, Mistwraith, Rebel, Apoc and Henck (once he had returned), Seth made sure HRs military focus kept in line and depending on Uni rankings, would target ND or Mistu.

The final week was a battle to the end, infact it was the only real battle for ranking in the top10. It was a war on all fronts, even the recruitment one with each alliance recruiting anywhere they could, just to add 1 or 2million to their overall score.

After the Final Night, HR kept all fleets home for defence and made sure no members would suicide their fleets. With the rise of the sun came HRs rank of 4th Place by 9million - End of right? We wish! With only a few hours remaining and new Mistu recruitment, (alongside 2 HR members leaving our ranks ingame) cost us enough to drop behind Mistu by only a few 100k. The final hours were tense but thanks to two new recruits whose 72hour wait was over, we got back the rank we had worked so hard to achieve. You can view a final universe ranking of the last day Here.

With our pre-Round11 Goal fully met, every HR member could be proud of the hard work they had put in and be confident that Round12 would only increase our success.

To be completed....

Round 12: The Edge of Darkness
Sethy has been real lazy getting this one complete.

- Ill just paste what ive written so far:D
----
With HRs success of Round 11 we knew that to match or better our 4th Rank would be that much more difficult. The element of surprise would be lost, alliances like ND & MISTU would not underestimate HR for fear of loosing rank to us again. Not only this but from an internal point of view, our members were of higher quality and so expected a better "service" from their alliance. It's human nature to want to better ones achievements, for Wolves the hunger is off the scale!

One issue HC were well aware of, was we wanted to really push attack organisation this round and this was something we feel we improved upon, however there were a few unforeseen defence issues. After the second week we lost one of our most important night owl DCs, Jirikai. Due to RL issues he was unable to maintain activity and the loss of him pushed a huge weight on the other DCs, it was a loss that we found hard to replace.

Politically, R12 was close to a carbon copy of Round 11 and many alliances continued the trend of "trying" to go solo. From the off HR was top3 behind LCH & MISTU (who had the added strength of the Angels BG), previous winner 1up had vowed to recruit no more then 60 players ingame and so their Univeral Rank was low to start, causing many alliances to overlook them and their public campaign of King Maker.

Externally for HR, there were 2 Key Moments in Round12, the first being ND joining forces with NoS & ToF to attack HR - Knocking us down to 4th rank behind ND. Previous to this, HR had been targetting ND and because ND were unable to handle our force alone, they persuaded others to aid their side. Ironically, had they planned it for any other night after this, they would have seen HR changing target to MISTU (as we were satisfied with NDs size below us) but with NDs dirty tactics, war had begun. For the first time in our history, we would witness underhand tactics (such as spamming our def bot, fake recall messages, impersonating HC) and a strong public campaign against us.

1up were very much pulling strings from day one and towards HR, both 1up & ND would play various propaganda games, most notably wrongly accusing HR & LCH of allying. However, HRs military campaign was flooding ND and from the 2nd day of war onwards, HR received little ND incomings, as most of their resources were spent defending against HR attacks. Insomnia played an important role over this period, as they would fight with HR against ND/NoS galaxies.

However, the war had stagnated both HR & NoS, mainly due to MISTU sneaking in after hours when our resources were low. ND approached HR and requested a cease fire to reclaim our lost roids and after discussing for a few days (giving enough time for HR to overtake ND in rankings;)), we agreed.

Unfortunately for MISTU, 1up & LCH had taken a fancy to their fat size and over the period of a few days of mass incomings, MISTU's round was over (not helped by the Angels leaving). By this point, 1up were looking big with the biggest average planet size although still ranking below the top3 (1st LCH, 2nd HR, 3rd ND).

The second key moment involved the bluffing of many alliances who had been neutral to the conflicts of the top5.

By mid round, 1up & LCH were firmly at war and from our point of view, it was a well balanced fight akin to HR & ND. Problems started to arrise when 1up began to recruit other alliances to their cause, with those alliances believing much of the false propaganda of an "enemy" block. With ND, ToF & Sin, 1up expanded their attack coverage.

109.78.100.126:

Originally an alliance formed by QuantumG and daddy inbetween r3 and r4 of planetarion, eXcessum developed into a thriving chatting channel on netgamers over the next few years, before returning as an alliance in r24. Notable members over the years have included JC (pa team), A2 (pa team) and Appocomaster (head of PA).

PA Origins
The exact origins of eXcessum are unsure, and vary from who you get told the story by. It has become increasingly apparent that haz has the most accurate story so here it is in newt's words.

eXcessum was formed by two groups of players, lead by QuantumG & daddy. QuantumG started playing pa in r3 with a few of his real life mates (eg, iDLEKiD, newt, and later, JC). After several emphatic failures to make an alliance (notably, amorebaabaa (ABB) and suicide), they joined The Strike Force (TSF). Also in this alliance were daddy, haz and pommeh. I think haz would like it to be pointed out he was actually hc, and TSF was his first alliance in pa. Early in 2001 QuantumG and daddy left TSF and formed eXcessum, with the immediate induction of newt and haz as fellow hcs. Other important founding members include JC, pommeh, trigger (iDLEKiD), Cheek, appocomaster and serra.

From the very outset, eXcessum's chances of winning r4 were dealt blow after blow by first QuantumG becoming inactive and secondly the presence of two rival factions in its member-base - one led by daddy & pommeh, the other by newt. It should be noted for historical purposes, that newt eventually won when he realised (thanks to appocomaster) that he had had more access to P than the other.

Despite eXcessum quickly reaching 30 members, its future as a PA alliance was doomed and indeed before the end of r4 the alliance disbanded. Both daddy and QuantumG, wearing their hearts on their sleaves, immediately announced their resignations from PA alltogether, with others following suit. As for the other HC, haz went on to achieve fame and not so much fortune as a dedicated NoS member, whereas newt opted to follow in the footsteps of daddy and become a cunt. JC joined ND with the help of Mooseh, before eventually becoming t&p in r7, his last round of PA before becoming a dedicated forums spammer and, as a result, a not so dedicated pa team member. Cheek formed formed his own alliance called synaptid which, despite having a few high profile members, never reached the same dizzy heights as eXcessum and quickly disbanded, with him joining WPO as an officer at the end of r5.

It should be mentioned that during the in-channel wars (frequently involving P and lasting until well after the alliance disbanded), #eXcessum was banned by cservice and so QuantumG lost his ownership. After many failed attempts by newt & co, eventually JC struck gold, reaching the pinacle of anyone's internet life - he became "the channel owner". Squabbles were immediately settled by a 4yr long policy of giving everyone 498 access.

Other notable eXcessum members from that era include Byronious (awesome american geek), clau777 (romanian guy who kept getting girls pregnant), theflyingdutcham (our only top100 member who gave his account to hcs to play with), villageidiot (the alki-prototype), lesbiansmurf (scottish wanker that could code).

Over the next few years, #excessum became nothing more than a chatting channel. While many people came and left, most of the core remained in some capacity - newt, JC, iDLEKiD (trigger), Cheek, Pommeh & Appocomaster. Arguably, the immediate survival of the channel can be put down to newt & JC discussing every aspect of their real life friendship in the channel. In 2003, the first excessum meet took place (JC, newt, pommeh, cheek), and #excessum has never really looked back since.

The channel has turned into one big revolving door. Plenty of people have left (most noticably JC & cheek), but have been replaced by the likes of Wishmaster, Mitre, Jupp, Alki, Stoom, Rember, ricoshay and so forth. Many others have tried and since been banned :(

Round 24
I'm not sure how eXcessum came to be in r24 - it was certainly a very late decision, around 1week before the round started. Our chances of being a decent alliance were massively bulstered when VS disbanded, resulting in Lockhead doing tech for us (Cabeza r00lz!). The HC team was newt (HC of defence & everything, initially), jupp^afk (politics + internal), Mitre (politics), Wishmaster (sex appeal) & Lockhead (tech). Although managing to recruit to 50-55 members in no time at all (mostly thanks to wishmaster, against mitre's wishes), eXcessum was really an alliance of 30 or so with insanely active hc. 2weeks into the round, there was an intervention to save newt, resulting in jupp overseeing most things in the alliance, and mitre effectively becoming head dc with ricoshay as his sidekick.

That said, the eXcessum hc had one aim that round - to make it fun politically. After CT took a massive early lead, jupp, newt & mitre did all they could politically (and internally) to organise a block of alliances to stop them. What happened next is almost a mythical tale, but needless to say jupp was amazing and all but gave ND the win that round. Since I'm writing this, I'd best add that some of the target assigning newt did during the war was epic too!!!

Nuff said? I think most would agree the alliance was decent for what it was, and a fun place to be. The HC chan certainly was - alas, we disbanded after the round. It was either that, or play half-assedly, or recruit non-excessum as hc..... which would have taken away most/all of the fun!

why is there no mention of risto finnishing top excessumite?!

eXcessum meets
There've been a lot of them! Ranging from newt's student house to amsterdam to berlin to cheek's house. Its hard to say what counts as a meet, since many people in the chan either started out as, or have become, real life good friends. But here we go:

* March 2003 Hitchin - JC, newt, Pommeh, Cheek, A2
JC was the motivation behind this meet - he was pa team by now and desperately wanted to meet other super pa nerds. He forced newt along, who in turn forced pommeh. God the meet was diabolically dull - thankfully cheek eventually turned up, and we all jsut mocked everyone else 24/7 - that was fun. Almost killing that guy with absynthe was cool too.

* May 2003 Nottingham - newt, pommeh, cheek, FT
So, after the success of the previous meet, pom, newt & cheek met up again. Since FT lived in nottingham, he also joined. It was a bit of a lowkey event, a bit of weed was done and we got to sample some of cheek's legendary spliffs/cigars.

* July 2003 Nottingham - JC, newt, Pommeh, iDLEKiD, A2, captaindread, Moled
The first big excessum meet! Big story was pommeh & idlekid the first night, did they have sex? did they do stuff? All we know is that they slept in the same bed and pommeh vanished the next morning citing a sily lexcuse, before being forced to return. The other highlight also included pommeh - being sick in weatherspoons on the 2nd night. He's such an attention whore.

* September 2003 Nottingham - newt, pommeh, FT
Newt wanted weed - so travelled down to nottingham and ended up spending £400 on oregano. First he gave FT £260, which he stole. Then £150 to pommeh, for which he got oregano back. The day was awesome though!! Especially driving round the drug area of nottingham with a car full of 16yr olds, getting pulled over by the police, etc.

* December 2004 Nottingham - JC, newt, Pommeh, Cheek, Wishmaster, CybDev, A2, captaindread, emma
THe first excessum meet with foreigners, and importantly, wishmaster. The main highlight was probably sunday night, when JC went to bed we realised he'd left himself logged into his pa admin account. We had a pretty lollerific time fucking around on the forums!

* January 2005 Blackburn - newt, pommeh, JC
Pommeh came up to bburn for the weekend. Made those gay youtube karaoke videos!

* August 2005 Berlin - newt, Mitre, jupp^afk, CybDev
met up in berlin for the weekend, newt was living in dresden at the time. God, where to begin. The first night was dull - berlin was dead. Saturday night was entertaining! First Mitre got a blowjob off a street hooker, then we all spent hours in a brothel from 4-6am or so, waiting for newt to lose his virginity. Rumours vary as to whether he succeeded or not, but he msot likely spent 400 euros to sit in a bed with a russian whore for 2hrs discussing physics.

* November 2006 Leeds - newt, Pommeh, Wishmaster, Alki, Rember, CybDev
This was the next big meet (several mini meets inbetween).

* March 2007 Amsterdam -

* March 2008 Amsterdam -

* October 2008 Nottingham - newt, pommeh, cheek, CBA, Alki, iDLEKiD

* March 2009 Nottingham - newt, pommeh, wishmaster

* January 2009 Amsterdam x2 - newt, pommeh, cheek, stoom
Round 7
VisioN was founded in Round 7 - tho it first real, complete standalone round was round 8.

There was at first no intention to make it an alliance. We just wanted to make some Battlegroup in the Newx Block and a lump sum out of an alliance called TPS.

It started out with 2 galaxies and after more friends wanted to join in and some interesting people without an alliance got mixed into our galaxies we found out ourself with 75 people in 5 galaxies.

We had an old server in Havens kitchen who gave us privacy to organize our attacks etc. (To often i had to call/sms Haven in the night to reboot the server.....)

With the progress of the round in which the Block Newx got owned VisioN stood active and fought their way through the round. Of course we also lost players but the core was active and due the overhelming inactivity in Newx we broke from them and went on our own. We started to recruit active players out of our cluster alliances and friends who were also fed up.

We started to support FAnG with attacks on Fury & ViruS. FAnG offered us to become a wing of them but in the very last second we refused that and became our very own alliance.

The first HC´s were as founder : Legator

and as cofounders : Seekshot, Haven, Altor.

Round 8
In round 8 we cooperated with Ministry and Lost (which wasnt really a win) and in this round we had our first top 100 planet and a quite good averagescore (around 13 to 14 millions) which was a quite good one compared to the other alliances. We stayed mainly neutral but supported now and then Titans or also Fury in hitting one of them (just on a small basis, we got that way the coordinates of them)

Was one of our best rounds (imo) and was a good start for the future.

In this round ^Wannabe^ and Androx joined the command teams and Seekshot got dropped

Round 9
After the long break we wanted to stay “solo” again but private galaxies made that impossible. The first idea was to join galaxies with mates without looking on their alliances and just to play neutral. I was in a galaxy with some old mates and that again was part of some cooperation. It consisted of the by that time SWEET-alliances. That and the fact that many other galaxies were also shared with other alliances (SWEET+others) made us decide to not join those galaxies because it was very visible at an early stage that there was some blocks being created. By that time we started to cooperate with Rock, Templar and TFD. But at the same time were were in talks with the VOM-Block. We joined, as most know, the VOM-Block only because of the fact that the opposition had much bigger numbers. (Yea – we are great holy people).

As most know the result was that VVOMM (VisioN, ViruS, Olympians, Ministry, Madcows) were bashed heavily. We were outnumbered by WEETNAHR and whoever by 3,5 to one and we weren't able to fight back. But like in Round 7 we stayed active and fought back and never gave up. I must say with some more spirit of the other allies we could have achieved more.

Sadly after joining the VOM-Block, we lost Haven as a HC (she joined Rock) and a few members. Another nail in the coffin was surely the small universe (3.500 planets) and the outcome was a lack of targets. But as always – We didn’t give up.

In this round Skycrane was so gracious and supported us with a 2nd server which was first class. If one went off line the other one was up. Never had really problems (only at one time both servers went down.)

HC : Legator, ^Wannabe^, Orlandian, Altor, AndroX, Myztica

Round 10
In round 10, the round of the “new PA” we started completely solo – random Galaxies made that possible. Attacked in the first 2 weeks where we wanted and whom we wanted. But there were other Blocks. The EET block (Elysium, Eclipse and ToT and friends) and on the other side FAnG and Dragons. Due to a result of an even smaller universe again (1900 planets in the beginning) there was a fat lack of planets again – result was we had heavy incomings from both sides. So we napped FAnG and Dragons. The outcome was a nice and interesting fight with the opposite side until the big “happenings” happened. Later on we had some nice big battles with NoS/hirr who themselves joined the EET side. Both parties made a full war and we gave each other heavy incomings. The best night was were we launched on 56 NoS/hirr planets at the same time – that is one of the nights I won't ever forget in Planetarion. Great work from our BC´s (Desse and Rember).

We finished with 7 top 100 planets and had at one time 3 top 10 planets (One got roided, one suicided his ships by fault and another just got outgrown later on – due to strange “tactics”) It was again a very incoming-intensive round but we almost managed to stopped all reported incomings. Even if they came with 8 fat waves like on our top planets.

The command team : Legator, Myztica, Orlandian, AndroX, Desse

Round 11
Round 12
Round 13
Disbanded. Splintered into xVx and Reunion whom continued to play in round 14.

The Creation of 5th Element/xVx
xVx was formed by a small core of VisioN command and members after that alliance disbanded between Round 13 and Round 14.
Consequentially xVx came to existance close before Round 14 was starting.

xVx is the abbreviation for Fifth Element - in the meaning of the element combining the ancient elements earth, fire, air and water. Aristotle named this fifth - superior - element spirit.

Rounds
Round 14
This round for us was supposed to be a tryout round. Our target was to build a solid memberbase for the upcoming rounds which did involve a lot of tryout in both command and members. Starting with 35 members into the round we did a lot of recruitment - overall appx. 120 players have been in our rows throughout the round - 78 finished it.

In the final rankings we finished at position 5 - which was far beyond our expectations. Partially supported by numerous alliances disbanding/merging but mainly because we were able to put a decent fight till the end, outgrowing the averages of several alliances within the last 2 weeks.

On the political side we remained without any naps or allies throughout the round.

Round 15
Our second round turned out to be a pretty difficult one. After several backstrokes throughout the round it has been a hard challenge for everyone that stuck with xVx.

There was a nice amount of recruitment happening. A lot of new faces joined our ranks which was again a pleasure.
We didn't quite meet our expectations rankwise - too many internal issues and a lot of rebuilding mid-round took their price.

Due to rl reasons R14/15 HCs Uthor and Marka had to step down after the round was done.
A replacement has been found with Supersander - excellent players that have proven themselves to be capable officers/HC in previous rounds.

Round 16
With the new command structure xVx tries again to have an impact on PA and it's community while maintaining the friendly atmosphere we have been able to achieve throughout the rounds.

Round 17
In our quest to become a more efficient training alliance we started to put members and recruits into four different training groups - called clans. Those are led by some of our most experienced members. This gives recruits the chance to learn the ways of the games more quicker.

Politically it has been a rather uninteresting round for us. We had a major dispute with HR and some differences with F-Crew aswell.

We have seen again a load of fluctuation in our memberbase but yet again managed have a nice Top10 finish - namely on rank 7.

Round 18
Unsuspectedly xVx had a rather good start and for a change very actively participated in the political maneuvres of this round.

Starting with a 3 day campaign of SubH, Escape and us versus Omen who had been majorly hostile until then (not so much afterwards).
The second major campaign was a counter-block against eXilition to give them some opposition on the #1 spot. 1up and SubH were the partners. Sadly SubH backstabbed this block right away and we took quite some bashing.
The rest of the round was some close run for the 3rd place for us - with 1up and ToF being the main competitors. We managed to end on 4th place in a pretty competitive round.
The Original Vengeance
The original Vengeance was a cluster community from round 3, c123a. Over time it became a small, yet closeknit and active alliance, untill it joined BlackDeath in round 6. Several of the members in VGN were also members in BD, for example _are_, who was HC in both, which made the merger smooth and easy.

The Beginning
Vengeance as an alliance was founded in the confusion following the sudden end of round 8. BlackDeath and Ultra Violence, two smallish alliances, who dated back from respectivly round 2 and round 1, had been working close together during the round, under the tag VD (Violent Death). When the round suddenly ended, people started leaving the game, never to be seen again. The two alliances realised they could not continue with the constant decline in members, and decided to merge the two memberbases.

This created the new alliance we all know and love (well, I do, anyway) and after a quick election amongst all the members, the name Vengeance was picked. To guess who voted for Vengeance as a name, check the above section ;-)

Round 9: Redemption
In round 9, the HC was build up by _are_ (former BD), Starlock (former UV), helloraj (former UV), Gayle (former UV) and JUDO. During the round, DukePaul (former BD) was promoted to HC aswell.

Gayle's end-of-round thread says the following:

Well what can I say, an interesting experience to say the least! The first few weeks were hell on Earth for us in VGN, some of us (my gal included) were up in the top 50 and many in the top 100 after several weeks of play but that soon came to a crashing end once 'large scale' attacks started. I have never seen so many defence calls flashing up in the channel, those of you who've seen our defence planner know what a fabulous tool it is (_are_ really outdid himself with that part of the webby) but having 20-30 uncovered defence calls listed in the channel every 10 minutes can get you down quite quickly. We were getting hit seven ways fron Sunday and it was all but impossible to get any sort of defence from anywhere, PMing everyone in channel only to find that everyone online either had incoming or was idling drove me to the point of despair. I even got to the point where I applied to another alliance because all I could see was VGN falling to pieces around me and nothing seemed to help. Starlock and _are_ held it together though, they never gave up and I'm more than a little proud to have them as HC, they kept it together when almost everyone else had given up completely and that helped us stick with it 'just a bit longer'. That was the way to deal with the early part of round 9 we discovered, 'just a bit longer' and things will change.

And change they did, allying with VOM seemed suicidal to many of us but in fact it was the perfect move for VGN/VORTEX. It kept a large part of the universe off our backs and when the WE/ET split came about not long after the defence bot was abruptly silent for the first time in weeks. Not only did we have less incomings but we had almost NO incomings for 2 straight days! Was this a sign of things to come? Indeed it was, we now had chance to grow for the first time since tick 200 and grow we did. Nothing like the scale WE/ET were at but we grew enough to have useful fleets and (moderately) respectable roid scores. Once we got back into things it was all so different, the 'come and have a go if you think you're hard enough' attitude that was prevalent in UV (and presumably BD) resurfaced and people were defending attacks left, right, and centre. We had normal incomings now rather than the ridiculous amounts earlier in the round and we covered almost every single last one of them!

50:7:8 (Spoonman) had incomings (up to 100 mil attackers ffs) daily for weeks yet we covered him every time. Sometimes he had outside help but the core defence came from VGN and it rocked .

Our attacks sucked all round, not due to lack of trying as Soron did a great job putting them together but due to lack of people joining them. Whether this was down to a 'defensive' attitude brought on by the early part of the round (I know I kept my ratio ridiculously low to avoid being targetted again) or what I don't know but it did mean even The Slain ( UV R7 and later VGN R8/9 attack squad noted for utterly destroying our targets, if they didn't hit the most owned list we were gutted) were struggling to cover a galaxy some times.

So, did we have any top 100 players? Nope.

Did we manage some good attacks? Yes but not as many as we normally do, to be expected with the way the round went really.

Did our defence rock as much as always? Definitely, we frustrated many a large attack and took great delight in it every time

Did we have fun? After the initial despair we most certainly did, thanks have to go to _are_, Starlock, Soron, and the rest of the command team for this. Technically I'm still part of that team but after a few weeks BCing at the start of the round I can't honestly say I did anything so I won't take any of the credit away from those who so greatly deserve it.

I'm going to abuse this thread by also adding thanks to my galmates here for a great round (my first ever private one). Special thanks to Frozenblade (GC) and Badmotor (MoC) for organising our political situation and running the most amazing cross defences you ever saw, and also to Shy for the great night watchman job he did It was great to be with you and awe inspiring to watch guys

Round 9.5: Resurrection
Gayle's end-of-round thread says the following:

Well after the honest but not exactly boastworthy summary of last round this round has been quite different.

Without the blocks destroying everythig in sight we had a much better start for Round 9.5, as usual I made a complete mess of my own start (ordering reflecs in the first dozen ticks is a BAD thing :/) but many in VGN got off to excellent beginnings. Soron as attack HC got the ball rolling nice and early with the roidings, there were a few complaints about being a little 'optimistic' when picking target gals for a day or two but things soon settled into a nice routine with the usual suspects turning up for their attacks night after night after night. For most of the round Soron was pretty much on his own with organising the attacks but his dedication meant he still churned at least one out every day. Later in the round he was joined by AngelSeven who picked up the reins when Soron wasn't around, as one of those who hardly ever missed an attack he was the ideal choice. We didn't participate in many of the huge battles around the universe (we were there for a few but not many) but we certainly stole a lot of roids this round

Moving on to defence, this has always been our strong point and this round we surpassed ourselves. The defence was stunning to say the least, defence calls were many times covered in a matter of minutes no matter how big the incoming. To my knowledge not one attack reported to us at ETA 8/9 went uncovered and the only ones we ever really worried about were the in para LDK Xan attacks but we still managed to cover most of those. As a whole 90% of all attacks on VGN planets were fully covered, of the remaining 10% maybe half were covered enough to force a recall (or looked like they were ) so approx 5-7 out of every 100 attacks reported to us was undefended. I don't know how that stacks up against other alliances but I for one am damn proud of all the VGN members who contributed to that statistic. Thanks to the stunning defence system designed and coded by _are_ we normally run without a DC, the members can see what's going on at a glance and send their fleet where it does the most good. Sometimes this leads to a little overdefending but a number of people have landed in the face of our defence so sending them home with their ass in a sling is worth a few extra ships . For his constant contribution to defence and his assistance co-ordinating things when it got a little to hectic for some Xavier has been promoted to the command team, despite only joining us this round he well and truly deserves it

With the free round our recruitment team under DukePaul were worked to death, many people sent their unallied galmates our way (a nice vote of confidence) and we took many of them in, some of them were inactive fairly quickly but many of them blossomed and helped make our round what it was. The closed system of most larger alliances amazes me, you're missing out on so much new talent but I shouldn't complain about that as it means more of them for us . It's not an exageration to say that without them we could never have managed what we did.

So, where did we end up? Our top planet belonged to our attack HC, Soron and once again shows his position is justified. Starlock was second with 20 million and whole that may seem like a big jump we had a lot of members clumping up around that mark and down. No-one in the VGN top 50 had less than 6.5 million by the end of the round and as over half our members were new/returning players I think that's pretty good. We're not a bunch of leet players but we certainly have a lot of people who are able to play the game to a pretty good level and know what they're doing. Our final tag ranking on pilkara of 7th (robbed of 6th by a last tick detagging :/) shows just how far we've come this round compared to the last couple.

Where now? Well we'll be here for R10 that's a certainty. Many of our new members are staying with us and the majority of the old core will be there as always. Starlock will be leading us into the new era of PA with his usual blend of bad spelling and excellent judgement and we'll be right there with him

On a sad note, I have to mention the (well deserved) retirement of _are_, website coder extraordinaire. Our site may not be the prettiest around but by God it's functionality is superb. I'm supposed to be taking over the development of the website (_are_ will remain as host and server admin) and no doubt that will mean a few changes but the base I have to work from is second to none thanks to _are_ and all his work. I know I speak for all of VGN when I say we wouldn't be where we are without you, thank you so much for all your work and I hope you enjoy your free time

To end it all, my thanks and the thanks of the entire command team (both new and old) go to each and every single one of the VGN members, you've helped make us an alliance people respect, I can't mention everyone who's made a difference or this post will be even longer than it already is but you know who you are. Let's really show em what we can do next round and carry on the success! Our motto says it all, it's better to die on your feet than to live on your knees.

See you all on the battlefield.
Round 11: A Legend Reborn
During round 10.5, several members had stopped playing, and VGN realised it could not continue. Therefore, VGN played as a part of ROCK in round 11.

ROCK's good-bye-thread after the round

Round 12: The Edge of Darkness
Round 12: The return of Vengeance.

During round 11 VGN operated under ROCK's tag, but were not entirely happy with how things worked out. So the call went out, and we decided we would play if we managed to bring in 30 of the members to play. This was no problem at all, at the start of the round we had around 75 VGN members ready, and as usual we recruited a few new ones - mostly on vouch, but also a few noobs (Would like to point out Iron, 20:6:8, this is the first PA round he has ever played, and he ended on a nice 290th or so).

The HC of round 12 consisted of _are_, Starlock, Ladybug, darts, WesseH, GlowDog and DukePaul. When darts got promoted to work, VGN had to balance it by demoting him in VGN, and promoting RobTD to take his place. Later during the round Sjimmy was also promoted to the HC.

As is known by now, we worked with MISTU all round, and had a NAP with ROCK (DeadlRock later). During the early round, we did not participate in the attacks on Absolute (atleast, I think we didn't, might be wrong ), as I personally felt it was a wrong thing to do. Absolute was new as an alliance, but getting constantly attacked made sure that they never got to build a stable community and become a lasting alliance. We were generally minding our own business, and hitting naughty galaxies.

Then came the time when we lost 31:2:1 (Bee). The story here is a bit confused, depending on who you listen to, but bottom line is that the HC agreed to trust Bee to rejoin VGN after the 72 ticks were over. This didn't happen, and he joined LCH. Partially therefore (also because LCH was very hostile), we gathered other alliances to attack LCH (as they were #1), but the others didn't seem too interested in attacking them (felt it was unfair to gang up so many on one alliance, had more pressing enemies etc etc), so after about a week we were halved in number of alliances attacking LCH, and we felt we couldn't contiune with it - especially as LCH focused on us for a day or two. So, we had a talk with LCH, and decided on a gentelmens agreement on avoiding each other, and instead to focus on 1up. By now, the round had come to the point where only it was only two possible winners - 1up or LCH. And, faced with two evils, we felt that LCH was the lesser one.

The rest of the round, we attacked with the MISTU/LCH/HR/Angels/VsN group on 1up and ND, but as we all know, we didn't have much of an impact

Round 13: The Illusion Of Truth
After round 12, in which a lot of old players returned, and with good results, it was time for round 13.
Things were not going very smoothly during this round: several of the old players, after having put all their spirit back in Planetarion for one more round, had to spend more time on their real life again. Also, because of the good results in round 12, a lot of new players joined VGN. Some of these were excellent players, who became a true part of VGN fast. Others, were not.

During the round, it became clear that VGN no longer was a smooth, good oiled machine: we dropped ranks in the universe quite fast, people lost the fun in the game and started to become inactive.
At the end of the round, a group of people stayed behind, but it is hard to call these people one group. It merely existed out of inactives, and a small bunch of people who still made VGN what it really is: a close family.

Things had to change for Round 14.

Round 14: An Empty Throne
In the preparation for round 14, quite radical changes happened in VGN, in order to get back on track.
One of the major changes had to do with the change of playing in PA. VGN always was a very defense-based alliance, with covering over 95% of the incomings. However, in the "new pa style", attack (and getting xp) was all that mattered. Players, and thus alliances, had to change to attacking instead of defending. For many of the (old and playing for many rounds) members, this was a hard shift.

Another change was that VGN had grown rather big: it always had been a quite small, close family, where everybody did their thing and everything went smoothly. There was hardly need to kick members, because every member really was part of the alliance. After round 13 though, it became clear that this had changed as well. A lot of inactives were kicked, and the round was started with a small, but tight, group of players. The main focus for this round was to get back on track, and more important, to let this group become an even closer group of friends again, like a family.

The efforts proved themselves: throughout the round, VGN slowly but steady climbed the ranks in the universe. In the final rankings, VGN ended 7th, with just 53 members. The alliances above us, had all a lot more members, with a minimum of 22 more. The 6th ranked alliance was just 2 mill above us, so if the round would have taken 1 more day... :-D
VGN also had the highest average score of all the "non-hardcore" alliances.
VGN was totally alone in round 14, having no naps, allies, fence-sitting, or what else.

Round 14 was a great round again, a round in which VGN got back on track and created a base for even more.
Let's prepare for Round 15!

Round 15: Struggle for Supremacy
In Round 15 VGN continued the strong gains it had made in Round 14 despite running on 1 full-time HC (_are_) and two HCs without full-time internet (RobTD and furball). Starting as a smaller compact alliance, VGN remained solo until half-way through the round, when it made a NAP with eXilition who VGN's HCs predicted would be the winners of the round. The NAP was mutually beneficial and claims to the contrary can be considered mere sour grapes. Throughout the round VGN spent its time hitting roid-heavy targets, especially its attackers. As the round went on, VGN found itself hitting similar targets to eXilition, and co-operated with them on attacks merely to avoid hitting the same targets and so reducing their benefit to both alliances.

For the latter third of the round, VGN competed with Subh and TGV for 6th place; eventually VGN finished 7th, just behind Subh. With a strong platform consolidated and all three HC active again, VGN looks poised to make the jump to the big leagues in Round 16.

Round 16: The End Of An Era
Round 20 - Orbital Shift
Spot #1 for most of the round and then bashed to shreds, still:
Round survived

Round 21 - The Price of Victory
For not winning last round everyone went after us, what's wrong here, after all it has not been VGN winning the past round. Nonetheless:
Round survived

Round 22 - Shards of Infinity
After 1up closed the doors to it's HQ's after round 18, and round 19 in Newdawn, aNgRyDuCk decided it was finally time to create the alliance he'd talked about creating for a number of rounds. After discussing this with Assassin, Germania, Ace, alexis, Arfy, and Sleepless, Conspiracy Theory was formed. with aNgRyDuCk, Germania, Alexis, Ace, and Sleepless filling out the High Council. It's original members included players from a lot of different alliances to include 1up, eXilition, LCH, Legion, DDK, Angels, and Fury, among others. Assassin went on to join the Planetarion Multihunters team and Arfy had real life commitments, so played as an alliance Officer.

Round 20 was a battle between Conspiracy Theory, Destiny, and Vengeance that went down to the last tick, with CT (having held the #1 spot for the last third of the round) emerging victorious and ultimately winning by roughly 3 million points over Destiny. CT is one of the few alliances to win its first round in Planetarion. CT has played every round since, bar round 23, but although they have come close, notably in round 22 and round 24 they have not been able to repeat the success of their first round.
</table>

Pre-Pax
NewDawn, founded near the end of round 1 by Sith & Stez, has played every round of Planetarion and has often been represented in top blocks and rankings. ND's philosophy is "fun first" which has led to a strong and active community.

Through building a strong core in round 1, ND became an elite alliance in round 2 with the highest average score until the WaC-war. Cooperation with SK and F-Crew went wrong, the war was lost which left ND effectively dead.

In that period there was a power struggle between Coffee and Sith/Stez and the ND core decided to create a new alliance to be called 'Inexorabilis', in which some of the best players from all major alliances at the time would be involved . It seemed to have a bright future ahead and even before the end of round 2 there was active networking on forums & in channels. Unfortunately the attempt was undermined by traitors and with this failure, a great part of the old core decided to reinstitute ND, with people like Odoric, Canker, Sith, Stew and Myrdhin in command.
This round was also the round when the ND battlecalc was created by Odoric. A downloadable, ace battlecalc which was used by 90% of all planetarion players, best compared to thrud's calc now.

Early round 3 featured a good start but some old command folks went inactive near the end of the round and some of the new command (eg aviendha, ashknight) lacked loyalty, leaving for DoM (a legion recruitment alliance) and undermining ND's efforts. ND was involved in the big Round 3 war, whom our enemies were ReBorn.

In round 4, NewDawn tried setting up a recruitment alliance called Dust 2 Dawn, or D2D. This attempt was cut short after a few weeks when not enough recruits could be found and D2D couldn't exist as a separate entity.
Soem weeks into the round, many of the old HC went inactive due to real life. For quite some time, the HC was one person: Tsunde. New people helped out and got promoted to Senior Council (compare to executives in other alliances), including DigitalZero, Hardball, Jellinek, Buly, Riddim, Myrdhin and later on Orange and El-Cura or cura. It took until the start of round 5 until a new HC was fully formed. Recruitment was something the ND community focused on during round 4 and ND survived one of its worst rounds. With a new website, competent commanders & recruitment picking up, NewDawn was ready to go into round 5 as a real force once again.

In these days the second (but first successful) recruitment alliance of ND was created, called TheRising. TheRising was created to be able to recruit more people without compromising the security and it recruited quite a few people that later became part of the ND core.

The Furgion cartel dominated round 5, forcing ND to cooperate with Xanadu with whom they had held good ties since r1. This cooperation allowed growth; mergers with ICD and YHQ added enough players and allowed ND to compete as a respectable power once again.

Round 6 was coloured by the entrance of Colcarpenter, former YHQ leader. Colcarp left ND later due to differences with the old ND core, but he remains a positive influence in ND's history. Around this time Barrow and Shooter16 joined the command. Politically round 6 was the round of FoS, XeTa and FLTV. ND were a major player in Fusion of Six, or 'FoS' in an attempt to break the power of FLTV who were finally beaten by FoS-XeTa, ending the worst period of stagnation in PA history. After that, FoS-XeTa cooperation ended to prevent further stagnation, allowing FLTV to make a resurgence.

PaX & Beyond
In PaX, NewDawn was able to step up, finishing third in Round 12, allied to the winners 1up. After a poor showing in the first half of Round 13, NewDawn merged with SiN to form SiNND who finished fifth.

After the severe beating of Round 13, the loss of many members to 1up, SiN joining Hydra and G-II de-merging it looked like NewDawn would collapse. However, the loyal core and several new recruits made a strong start with Gate and Flying_So-Low running the show. The_Fish and ReligFree later joined the HC team as Gate burned out. NewDawn first engaged the similarly sized Reunion in a rank war before swelling in size by absorbing members from the collapsed InSomnia, Hydra and Wolfpack. At the end of the round, NewDawn were crushed by 1up and their allies Reunion, finishing second.

NewDawn went into Round 15 with yet another HC change; Grog, h3ll, and Amon joining Flying_So-Low as HC. Grog's political maneuvring let NewDawn reach the top spot, but eXilition, helped by other alliances such as Subh and Vengeance were able to obliterate NewDawn's lead. Again, ND finished second.

In Round 16 a new council was set up, constisting out of cura, BA, Paddy and JDD. Grog took the BG DLR out of tag for the round but despite this loss, NewDawn were still able to compete. 1up defeated Subh early in the round, but NewDawn joined Subh's side and, frustrated by the dominance of XP, 1up began to weaken. The outcome of the war was never decided as Ascendancy tagged up and took an easy XP win leading to NewDawn surrendering the fight for first, eventually finishing 7th after tidying up its ranks.

Round 17 saw NewDawn ally itself with InSomnia early on to engage the leaders Omen. Indecisive leadership and the failure to prosecute a proper war on behalf of both NewDawn and InSomnia allowed the conflict to become bitter and drag on with no clear resolution. 1up hid a huge amount of score and by the time they tagged up, petty arguments between Omen and NewDawn/InSomnia allowed them to stroll to a victory.

NewDawn started Round 21 with only two HC, namely Barrow and cura. After losing quite a few members to Conspiracy and WolfPack, NewDawn didn't compete for the #1 position and instead aimed to rebuild for the future. During Round 22 and Round 23 with the addition of new members and a firmly in place core of dedicated members NewDawn once again enjoyed playing the game while still earning the respect of the other alliances. Mainly for there tactics and well trained officers. Most notably Kar, Harv, Dracula and Merlin

With the Rebuilding of its members NewDawn won Round 24 and Round 25, in both cases narrowly beating Urwins and Conspiracy. although hard fought and fun these rounds would prove to be a source of life for NewDawn and Planetarion alike. This would come in the form of something no alliance had yet to do. War and public talking about it openly. NewDawn had indefinably opened the door to its own golden-age and a new era for Planetarion

Round 26 was more or less like the long loved series Babylon 5 this by far has been the most action pact round anyone can remember in years. Planetarion was alive with a buzz of new players alliances were firmly in place to try and thwart NewDawns run at a 3 in a row wining streak... to this day no one alliance has pulled it off. Known only as the illusive "Hat trick" NewDawn would ultimately find this round its most exciting yet. With enimies all around it held together through the hole round as a firmly placed hoard of power. Even after the joining of a new Alliance and and older one NewDawn still earned the respect of everyone in Planetarion. "The Denial Wars" as it became known to many was a round filled with great fun tactics and the first ever Public Videos Promoting themselves as well as a media battle to boot. In the end the two most responsible for this were Kenny of Denial and Dracula of NewDawn both veterans of the game both created a buzz within the community at large and in there alliances. NewDawns videos total rocked Denials and led to a huge moral boost to all war tired players.

Round 27 More alive than ever with the current news about planetarion as a whole has been quite calm several wars and skirmishes have developed. Newdawn has held fast keeping the hoards of incomings at bay while defending and growing although this round is a top spot again for newdawn the golden age is far from over.

Round 28 and Round 29: NewDawn is once again playing.
</tr>
</table>

Ascendancy was started by Rob and jesterina in late round 15 with the aims of breaking as many conventions about how alliances should be run as possible. Ascendancy won round 16, primarily via playing for XP, while most alliances remained in a traditional value playing style in a round where XP was a far more viable method of gaining score.

Ascendancy went on to hold the #1 galaxy spot in round 19 while playing more conventionally for value. Round 20 saw Ascendancy dominate the top planet ranks and finish 4th as an alliance while once again playing primarily for XP. After this the viability of playing purely for XP was permanently reduced. In round 21 Ascendancy once again played for value quite successfully, with the second highest number of top 100 planets after the winning alliance Wolfpack.

In round 25 Ascendancy emerged from a two round hiatus and, utilising the tactic of distorter-whoring, were one of the top alliances. However despite the memorable nature of this tactic it proved unsuccessful in terms of score accumulation and Ascendancy only finished in 5th position. Round 26 saw Ascendancy, playing under the tag name STOOMTHEREVIVAL with almost entirely Zikonian planets, strike from 7th to 1st place, knocking long-time round leaders Denial from the top spot in the last week, with the assistance of a number of other alliances. Round 27 then saw a slightly weaker Ascendancy finish as one of the top 3 alliances in a tightly contested round won by Denial.

Round 28 marked the start of an unprecedented four-in-a-row winning streak for Ascendancy. This was perhaps Ascendancy's most dominant round and one in which they were #1 for almost the entire round bar a few ticks early on. Following this in Round 29 Ascendancy appeared to take a backseat to begin with but, after targeting the early round leaders, Denial, with ND and Audentes, Ascendancy were able to climb into the top spot and hold off a short-lived block attempt to take them down. Round 30 marked the first time an alliance had ever won 3 rounds in a row. Heavily concentrated in core galaxies, a tactic they had used frequently over the rounds, they were able to battle back after very heavy incoming throughout the round to take the top spot. Moving into Round 31 Ascendancy seemed to be clear favourites. However a block consisting of virtually all other major alliances was able to knock them down to #2, until xVx changed sides and allied Ascendancy, leading to them rising back into the #1 spot.

Round 32 saw a much smaller Ascendancy, following a member purge, finish in 3rd place and managing to achieve success in planet and galaxy ranks again. This round also saw the rise of Apprime, who Ascendancy then defeated in Round 33 to take their seventh round win. In Round 34 Ascendancy, allied to their enemy of the previous round Apprime, finished in second place behind Apprime. Their domination of many of the later rounds of PAX led to them being considered a superpower in the game.

They have a group of members, who seek out and cause trouble on the forums - known as the Ascendancy Troll Squad

But hey, some of them are allegedly decent people despite evidence to the contrary.

<b>Private galaxies</b> are made of up to 8 people that only contain buddy packed planets. Players create buddy packs as usual, and can have up to 8 players. Any buddy packs of 2-6 will be joined together, to make 8 planets.
Any galaxies that have less than 8 planets after shuffle can get the remaining planets at a late signup. Planets that leave the galaxy after shuffle will not be replaceable by late signups. Normal planets and upgraded planets can both be members of a private galaxy.

<b>Random galaxies</b> are galaxies of 12 or more people. None of the people are in buddy packs. Upgraded planets are spread equally over all galaxies, as are normal planets. Random galaxies get 1 late join planet tick 336.

New signups are placed in random galaxies. Self exiles or galaxy exiles from private galaxies and random galaxies both land in random galaxies.

Alliances
<b>Alliance limits</b> have changed. The top 65 members by score count towards the alliance score. Alliances can contain up to 100 members.

<b>Alliance relations</b> have now been added. Alliance relationships are shown on the "Universe" page. When both alliances accept "Allied" status, the alliances cannot attack each other but can defend each other without an ETA advantage.

User Interface
The user interface has a slightly new layout. The Overview is now more streamlined, and much of the planet summary is available on the right hand side. Over the course of the 11 day signup period, we anticipate a greater selection of skins to become available.

Constructions
The construction setup has changed. The costs and construction units are now varied based on different types, with factories being the quickest to make, and amplifiers and distorters being the slowest to make.
Pre-Round Announcement
This round sees several changes:

Galaxies

<b>Constructions</b><br>
The construction setup has changed. The costs and construction units are now varied based on different types, with factories being the quickest to make, and amplifiers and distorters being the slowest to make.

Round 36 Update
Round 36

Firstly, Round 36 signup dates have changed slightly. Apologies for this change; this is to ensure all code is fully tested before ticks start. They will now be as follows:

Round 36 signups start Monday, 8th March at 20:00 GMT
Round 36 ticks start Friday, 19th March at 20:00 GMT, and will continue for 7 weeks

Round 36 changes

The following major changes will occur:

Alliance limits will be increased to 100, with the top 65 counting to the tag score.

There will now be private galaxies or random galaxies. Private galaxies will be approximately 8 planets in size; random galaxies will start about 50% bigger and increase as the round goes on.

Constructions will have a more varied look, with costs and construction units now specific to a construction. The number of constructions will increase.

Round 36 ship stats will be similar to those shown in the beta manual, and governments will change slightly.
